Neither won an acting Oscar. Barbra won for "Evergreen", best song category in 1976/77. Bette Midler won best actress for The Rose at the 1980/81 Golden Globes. She lost the Oscar, considered one of the biggest snubs. The Rose won best song for the writer that year. If I'm not mistaken, all of these actresses were placed under Musical at the Golden Globes, and if you take a look at history, 90% of Oscar winners are categorised as Drama actors at the Globes. What A Star Is Born (2018) did differently than its predecessors you mentioned above is that the 2018 version is placed under drama instead of musical, increasing significantly its chances of winning the Oscar, something the previous renditions did not do. Besides, the 2018 rendition is widely regarded as the best iteration among all the incarnations.

Must be that good old playlist payola so many men in hip hop use. Isn't Khalid more pop/rnb than he is Hip Hop? He is on tons of EDM/dance features that's what gave him his high numbers I believe.
