Horror movies, these days anyway, are kinda in their own category. It's kinda like p*rn honestly.

With p*rn it's like: Does it look hot, does the tone seem erotic, is it going to make me cum?

With horror it's like: Does it look scary,  does the tone seem creepy, is it going to make me jump?

Audiences just want the thrill. They care less about a good plot, interesting camera work, outstanding acting and an engaging/coherent storyline. They're just looking for that moment that will get the endorphins going and lead to that sweet dopamine release.

Correct. Hence why Hereditary didn't fare very well with general audiences.

You know what to do with those 3 critics. :vegas:

Ask them what trauma they suffered that made them so bitter? Ask them how it feels to unanimously be disagreed with this making their opinion (and therefore their career) completely irrelevant, invalid, worthless and pitiful? Applaud them for daring to be different when their peers decided to be honest?

The past 3 days have been very boring, Venice and the first days of TIFF spoiled us.

I guess the pace is gonna pick up in 2 weeks

I remember when a journalist bashed one of Gaga's concerts and it was proven he never attended.

Possible, but he was factually incorrect about details of the concert, and was way off on the length.  I think some haters will not see ASIB, but will still post negative comments about it.

Hereditary is a great film - but yeah although critics loved it, audiences I think expect this kinda "jump scare" horror genre and got disappointed when it didn't deliver that.  The Babadook received a similar reaction, although not to the same degree, where it's beloved by critics and audiences took a long while to warm up to it.

The overuse and misuse of the jump scare really ****ed with the genre and with what audiences now expect from a horror film. There are still gems out there, but most horror films these days are low budget films aimed at cheap scares and there is an audience out there looking for that thrill.
