The yodel was only part of that kids issue. Did you see those boots? Was he dodging the floods of everyday low prices or what?!

Sinner’s Prayer is lyrically and sonically one of the best on Joanne. People can like or dislike it depending on their taste but calling it “without character” is really just funny.

Because it tries to mimic a certain garage rock-esque sound mixed with this country flavoring yet her vocal delivery and melody is so damn flat throughout the entire thing. It literally just drags along and goes nowhere. Where is the character in it? The guitar riff is nice but it just repeats throughout the entire thing. Theres no building on anything. No climax. Its not even interesting enough to be interesting without a climax. Lyrically I wont comment because I dont really have a problem with it in that sense.

I LOVE the song but I prefer the Dive Bar version. And I also like who you compared it to so maybe that's part of it. Haha.

Haven't heard the dive bar version but ill search it right now. as per usual im sure the live version gives the song an emotional delivery that i dont think the album version has lol

I personally disagree and I've had too many years loving rock music (im old lol) BUT...I love the way you describe things and you DO have great taste in many ways so it's all butter on a biscuit. Lol.

When you hear it, it'll only solidify your thoughts.  Haha.  It's the end with the drums that I love so much but YEA it does sound like what you mentioned earlier, dammit.  :ladyhaha:

Its fun to disagree sometimes. It makes me often relisten with another person's thoughts in mind. Or maybe I'll open the other person to a new thought. Regardless, it's all just opinions and that's what's fun about music. We all hear different things.

Honestly when I first listened to the album and Sinners Prayer started I liked it but as the song progressed I was like thats it? Thats all you're going to do with that guitar riff? Thats all youre going to do with your vocals? It needed something more and its almost like she was even bored recording it. I guess I just wanted to like it but couldnt. And I could see how someone could like it but then i also cant help but be like yeah but think about what it could have been you know what I mean?

Ugh I hate songs that make me feel that way. GUY makes me feel that way which is why I notoriously loathe it.

I view her vocal in SP as coming off a wild journey and girl is lost and tired and done and that's the vocal she gives. I feel like I literally "came down the mountain".

Do we all agree that yodel was a tad much?

No character? The song goes nowhere? Are we listening to the same song? It’s one of the most heartfelt songs on the album, it’s one of the select songs with actually deep lyrics, the vocal performance is great, the instrumentation is really intricate and develops over the span of the song, it has a defined structure and it goes all out on the final chorus, and it’s the song that most fulfill the promise of an acoustic, folk driven album, like what more do you want?
