the only song I've heard by Cher L is WUB, and unfortunately I do like Wide Awake better than that song.

Her grunts....just the sound of her voice on that song is :eww:

Nah. I don't think so. Her beats have more bite (love the droning siren synth that propels the verses), and while the actual content is totally comparable, her delivery actually comes across as playful, where there's is sort of a dull recitation of their "party" lyrics.

I dunno. I like her. And the fact that people hate on her so much just makes me root all the more for her. Give me a hundred Swagger Jaggers over even one Wide Awake.

I've never encountered anybody defending Swagger Jagger before, so there's a first for everything I guess

I just think her music, in terms of production and quality, is borderline offensive and abhorrent

Wide Awake is better than anything that girl has. :wtf:

See, I just can't agree. But the fact that Cher L. has so many haters is precisely why: at least she puts out singles distinct enough to draw vitriol. Everything Katy Perry puts out is so. damn. safe. It's become infuriating for me. Like, I *want* to like Katy Perry. She seems so pleasant and sweet and down to earth, but everything in her discography just ranges from offensive (the one-two punch of the singles "Ur So Gay" and "I Kissed A Girl") to the unremarkable (everything else).

I like the ET video, though!

I can't blame Katy for discounting, since getting #1 is now a game of lining up two things (sales and airplay) that tend to peak weeks apart because radio is so slow picking up songs that sell. Katy has been #1 on digital sales and #1 pop radio airplay.

Why not discount rather than let a song with that much airplay fall out of top 10 sellers (like happened to Ellie). It's not like there are any good promo ops for Katy or Ellie this week (which is another way of spiking sales when radio is high).

See, and this makes me question my taste, lol! :cryga:

Normally my eyebrow is raised at the right people (your Katy Perry's, your Pitbull's, your LMFAO's) and normally I like the right people (Gaga, Beyonce, etc), but I can't figure out how Swagger Jagger became such a rallying point for the general public. Like, there's soooooooooooo much **** mainstream pop out there, I just can't find it in me to pile on a young artist like her that at least delivers a song with sharp, idiosyncratic verses (even if I do agree, the chorus is downright offensive sounding).

By the general public hating Swagger Jagger you mean the UK's general public hating Swagger Jagger right?

Because I've never heard of that song :flop:

Yes. To my knowledge Cher Lloyd hasn't gained much traction outside the UK til Want U Back started to get US airplay.

The fact that it sounds like a Christmas carol (Little Donkey) doesn't really help things

Don't people in UK have a hate for Cher L that goes beyond the music and is more about how she acted, or was edited, or was covered in the press when she was on UK X Factor? She was widely hated but still made final 4. She also was only 17 then, so may have grown up a bit since.

But in America, she's just a new artist with a song.

She was a James Blunt on the X-Factor, and stories came out of how she was a bully

The fact she released **** music didn't really help improve her image here

The problem I have is that Ellie has never had a #1 and this week may be her only chance to have one before Whistle takes over. Katy is greedy and doesn't need anymore...

Regarding sales, Ellie has a remix that has been hovering around #115 that is giving her a boost that people don't recognize. Also, Lights has sold around 3 million digital while Wide Awake hasn't even hit 2 million yet. Lights is WAY more deserving of the #1 even when I put opinions of the artist/songs aside.

Lights is an amazing record. So glad it's getting the recognition it deserves after it bombed over here.

Lights is so overplayed right now on my local radio, so I have to keep reminding myself I shouldn't hold that against it: it IS a great pop record, and will be a deserving number one (a rare thing!) if it grabs that title.

I wonder if it had to do with it being at the tail end of her album era over there. Just makes me wonder how MTN would have done if it was released at the beginning of the BTW era.
