Walmart Raises Wages To $11/H

Wow that's about the same minimum wage as what we are paid in NZ! I mean, ours should still definitely go up, but the US is known for paying way worse in comparison. At least $11USD an hour is liveable.

And who thought an evil company like Walmart would actually be the ones to step up?

This is definitely a surprise

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Meanwhile, 63 Sam's Club locations(same company as Wal-Mart, but their bulk food store chain) have been announced to be closing this year, and thousands of people are losing their jobs there, so it's not exactly all roses and pay raises for the Sam Walton companies.

I'm talkin' 'bout forever, baby.

Omg this ^^^^^^^^ I miss Portugal so much... the food!!! The party lifestyle!!!! The mountain scenes!!!! The Cafes!!!!

It has less culture variety than Canada and less variety of stuff to try available from around the world but excluding that Portugal was better in every other way!

I lived in a village 20km or so from the city of Coimbra and there was so much to do in that entire region its crazy!!! Its been 16 years since I moved to Canada but Ive gone back to visit a few times

The economy is the only reason id never go back. And the terrible slow public healthcare. Money is just an issue there and I wouldnt feel secure thats the only problem

Fascination

In my country the minimum wage is 1.565,40 Euro for one month work when you’re older than twenty two year old. 72,25 for one day and 361,25 one week. It’s ridiculous how people are treated by big corporations, businesses and governments in other countries. Capitalism sucks.

In Kansas maybe? Lol

its about as high as the minimum wage in my Province if u adjust for exchange rates. Its not a living wage here either but...

I think the cost of forcing a living wage on low skill level entry jobs could be problematic

11$ an hour, 40hrs a week is 22,880 dollars a year before taxes. If you're living on that in most of America, ur living in poverty. Especially if u have a kid.

According to SmartAsset.com, in Kansas you're take home pay at the end of the month would be 774 dollars making 11 dollars hours working 40 hours a week after taxes.

Good luck to anyone making that a month. You're never gonna be able to save anything to help ur future. Hell, u won't be able to provide herself a decent present.

Still... we all already knew the majority of the money would stay at the top and not tricke down but thats what Trump chose to do :neyde:

if at least a little bit does thats great

i honestly thought the only benefit to average person would be better RSP performance for their retirement due to better stock performance and a few more jobs as companies can invest a little more quickly

I didnt expect any raises at all so if even a fraction of tax cuts trickle down at least thats something tbh

Don't think the raises will offset the damage done by Walmart laying off thousands of workers though, which they revealed they are planning to do

Thats automation tho. Like selfcheckouts for example

more productivity with less labor isnt a bad thing initself it allows for wealthier economy

but its bad in the sense that jobs going are level-entry jobs that people need to start, students etc. Its a pity they are disapearing

What the hell?? I make about $11USD an hour, work a 40 hour week, and take home about $1350USD a month... what the hell kind of taxes exist in America that you get paid so little of what you earn??? Are you taxed about 50%???

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

You would bring home 1500 a month in the US and end up getting all your money back at Income tax time.
