YeehawKylie 7,817
ARTPOP would be dated as hell today. No matter what, her second album would've smashed while her third album would've underperformed. There was no avoiding it.
Cassidyfal 758
The electronic sounds were dated for the time it was released. I love it but it does sound like 2010ish, use partynausious as an example, its one of my favs but it does sound 2005
freebit 6,240
The only track on ARTPOP that felt "dated" to me at the time was Donatella, which sounds like it came from 2005. It's very Paris Hilton, it has that same excessive attitude that was celebrated in most music and pop culture in the early to mid aughts. That said, I think the Zedd tracks sound exactly of their time and wouldn't be appropriate now (though he seems to get away with the same stale stuff today as the success of Stay illustrates). Overall, AP is in too weird of a place to fit in anywhere - not esoteric enough to be considered ~cool~ and respected, but too lyrically (and sometimes structurally) odd to be radio candy. It was always going to be an upward battle for that record no matter when it was released.

I felt like it would have been a bit out there but still commercial enough for people to love it AND THEN hit them with BTW. I really feel like BTW is a more experimental concept album than ARTPOP I was thinking the same thing!

Although I do think BTW the song was so needed at that time - it really changed the discussion of LGBTQ rights and pushed it to the forefront of conversation in our generation. crisTEAne 21,059
i wouldn't know and i wouldn't care. i haven't listened to the record for a while but did today and it gave me the energy it's supposed to give you. ARTPOP always picks me up when i'm not feeling energized. if you hurt taylor swift, i'll hurt you back
just another gay 836
Only DWUW has a little chance, with a "chill" remix maybe. The album will do terrible in today. Applause will probably chart as the same as PI did if it were the lead single in 2016, if not worse. However, the song ARTPOP to me is quite timeless.
