StrawberryBlond 14,264
You sound surprised I'm not: just thought I'd throw that extra bit of information out there. I find it kinda funny that some of her most personal, revealing songs on that album weren't even written by her. Her songwriters have quite a knowledge of her character, I must say. comrade 33
What's the big deal. The younger pop girls have gone like rockers in the 1960's, in making it the norm to be involved in your own song writing. You have Gaga, Katy, Kesha, Taylor, Adele ... vs. throwback Rihanna. Elvis Presley never released one song that he had genuine writing credits on and I dare anyone to try and defy his impact, legacy and talent to me. On the other hand acts like Elvis back in the day that didn't write their own material usually had involvement in the creative process in some capacity. And could actually sing/perform. Rihanna just turns up, sings the song and ****s off while some producer auto-tunes the **** out of her because she isn't really a great vocalist. THAT is my issue, not the fact she doesn't write. Some of the greatest songs in the history of music have been performed by artists that didn't actually write them. It's nothing extraordinary. Stop hating so blatantly on every single artist you just don't happen to like for some reason or another. You always seem to be that eternal presence around me, don't you? It's my opinion, it's a free country. I support artists who actually make an effort, artistically and promotionally. Yes, there's some really good songs out there that weren't written by the artist but that doesn't mean that that's the way it should be. It's different if it's just a regular song, but for someone like Rihanna, whose Unapologetic album is almost completely about Chris, she should be writing everything. You should want to write everything about a very personal incident in your life. I most certainly wouldn't want other people assuming my own thoughts about such a private issue and making them into a song. As far as personal issues go, no one should know you better than you know yourself. The younger pop girls have gone like rockers in the 1960's, in making it the norm to be involved in your own song writing. You have Gaga, Katy, Kesha, Taylor, Adele ... vs. throwback Rihanna. Ironically, Rihanna is getting blocked by Britney and Swift in the UK. You hit the nail on the head. Even artists who look and sound like pop puppets (Kesha, Katy, Carly Rae) are writing their own stuff and are proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. Rihanna is one of the very few current female artists who doesn't write the majority of her music. In the past, that was normal. Nowadays, it makes you look lazy and the odd one out. There's just no excuse for not writing your own music these days. And Rihanna is called hardworking just because she releases an album every year? Baloney. How's it working when you don't contribute? It especially bugs me when Rihanna's least successful albums (Music Of The Sun, A Girl Like Me, Rated R, Talk That Talk) involved her input to some degree and her most successful albums (Good Girl Gone Bad, Loud) don't have one song with her name on the writing credits. That's my ultimate beef with her: the public rewards her for being lazy and punishes her for actually doing her job.

chris777 112
Maybe The UK didn't like that much BTW, unlike TF and TFM where she get her four #1 JD, PF, BR and Telephone. Such a shame because BTW is an amazing album I don't see any problem with Rihanna having those #1s, she has 7 albums out is really understandable

craig 680
Britney got her first UK #1 since 2004 today. Taylor IKYWT now been #2 in UK, US, and Canada. Ties Love Story's #2 UK peak for Ms. Swift.
StrawberryBlond 14,264
The only reason Taylor's getting to #2 is because there's been very little competition recently (the same reason why her album went to #1). Why is there no new singles being released right now? I wish Gaga was releasing her lead single right about now - this would be the perfect moment. Britney got her first UK #1 since 2004 today. It's not Britney's song though, she's just a featured artist who was drafted in at the last minute. I don't like it when a song is considered an artist's #1 when they were just featured. And it's nearly always in favour of artists who have struggled to get #1's as of late (Beyonce with Telephone, Xtina with MLJ and now Britney with S&S). It seems patronising. In my mind, the only material that counts is the artist's solo work or if they are the main artist, so no, Britney's last solo hit in the UK is still Everytime. When she gets a #1 when she's the only singer on her song, that's when credit has to be given. It looks like Britney could be turning into one of those artists who only gets #1's if she has others supporting her.

Not only is it having a better chart run than wil.i.am's latest #1, it's also already outsold it in less than 2 months since its release. Britney catapulted the song to levels it never would of reached with just will.i.am alone. For God's sake, some people think HE's the one featured and she's the lead. I mean, I understand your point of view, but Beyonce's contribution to Telephone and X-Tina's to MLJ are minimal in comparison to Britney's contribution to S&S. It's a completely different scenario.
