What annoys me about threads like this is that they assume Gaga's fanbase is an actual entity, but that's simply not true. We're many different people with different tastes and opinions. Of course Gaga is divisive, because she's a mainstream popstar who wants to be recognized as an independent artist. This is reflected in her fanbase: some people enjoy her commercial success, and are happy when she makes catchy tunes; others want her to stay away from what's mainstream and popular.
 

Just because some people are bashing the song, that doesn't mean WE are doing so, just like me being underwhelmed by PI didn't mean that the whole fanbase was.

Joanne may not have many tracks which can be wrapped in a neat bow and sent to radio, but the songs are very soulful and well-written. "The Cure" is just... anyone could have done that. It doesn't stand out in the slightest.

I'm just bothered with the fact that users here would drag artists like The Chainsmokers and Zedd to death for their generic sound, but then start dancing in circles when Gaga releases The Cure 

This fanbase is in ruins tbh.

Gaga is an eclectic artist and we are an eclectic fanbase, and I respect anyone who has a respectful opinion. But come on, this song is pure bliss! Totally blown away. Kind of gives me an Aaliyah groove with elements of tropical.

i mean why not blame the woman herself who built her whole brand on being the innovator (in technology and pop) and trendsetter ("I cue culture")

is it really a surprise that some fans feel let down by the woman who said over and over that she'd never let her fans see her in sweats and flip-flops now buying houses in nothing but in a city she said she hates/swore off cuz she's a 'true New York girl' while releasing a good/mediocre acoustic album after making a huge detour to jazz and then now succumbing to trendy producer-pop for sake of radio airplay after criticizing that female popstar business model for YEARS all the while muting herself politically at a time when 2010's Gaga would've been the most vocal and active for the rights of the disenfranchised

it's a bop, yeah she's obviously aiming for some commercial success but that doesn't mean the song is bad and she was forced to write it

Its okay to have an opinion. and its okay to not like everything from Gaga, this does not make you anyless of a fan (dont let others bullshit you)

Aslong as everyone respect each other and nobody wants to intentionally harm anyone ITS FUUUUUCKING FINE.

A forced positive attitude or fanatic behaviour is also killing the fanbase.

It's not that we are stuck in 09, but we have seen her come a long way (the fans that didn't jump on board after ARTPOP) and we do like a bit of nostalgia if truth be told. But I still wouldn't compare The Cure to any of The Fame tracks. It's a new sound, why don't we just all give it a shot. Joanne was very different and took me a while to warm to it but I got there in the end. I really didn't like PI at first, I hated it might I say, but it's grown on me and I've adapted because Gaga wants her fans to grow with her
