blubrryxkisses 15
I am a feminist and I love the look. I think that women should not ever be slut shamed. Whether it is due to the way that they act, dress, speak, whatever- I find it unsettling. The human form is absolutely beautiful and so is the fact that she is comfortable enough with herself to wear something like this. Men are allowed to walk around topless; what's the big deal? It is individuals in society who keep perpetuating gender myths and by s-xualizing female breasts while denying any s-xual nature to the comparable male body parts, we hurt everyone. And why is it that the bare body (even if in no way presented in a s-xual manner) is always equated with controversy? What's controversial about nipples??? Nudity is natural and the way that garment hangs on her frame is nothing short of lovely in my humble opinion.

It's not about slut shaming - I'd say the same thing if it was a guy showing the private areas of his body. It's just a matter of public decency. I also doubt that every woman who dresses provocatively does so because she is comfortable in her body - this is usually the classic sign of low self esteem. Their outfits are for the purpose of gaining approval for looking hot, not because that's what they genuinely want to wear. And Rihanna certainly has low self esteem judging by how she went back to her abuser, takes hundreds of selfies a year and makes her entire celebrity status centered around raunch. It's all about seeking approval. And you can't compare it to men walking around topless - men's chests aren't s-xual, women's are. Whether that's right or not depends on how you look at it but it's never going to change. It's a notion that's been hard-wired into us from the dawn of time and that's never going to change. Besides, as long as p0rn, strip clubs and the overall s-x industry continues operating, we'll never stop viewing breasts as s-xual, so it's pointless to question why we s-xualise the human body. And no, not every form of nudity is viewed as controversial, just the stuff that isn't on a painting or tucked away in the 18+ section. Rihanna is displaying her body in public for everyone to see despite public nudity laws and it actually goes against what you're saying about the body being s-xualised and causing shock. She's doing this to make people drool over her and for shock value.

She's doing this to make people drool over her and for shock value. You have a right to your opinion. And I respect you for stating it eloquently. Thank you. I just severely disagree with the fact that we are "hard-wired" to s-xualize breasts and have been since the dawn of time, especially since there were at one time many (and still are a few) groups of people in the world that have not s-xualized female breasts and women walk around in those cultures bare-chested with no more issue than men... I tend to steer clear of any statements that take current (Western) culture as being set in stone for all eternity, as I see all of us as participators in society, dismissing or upholding our own systems of values and beliefs. And social/cultural change comes about as a result of individuals pushing boundaries. Were it not for select people pushing "indecent" ideas, women would not vote, gays would not marry, etc. As for Rihanna, I suppose you are right that I cannot speak to her motivations behind this attire, as I am not her and I do not know her. I also cannot make any judgment as to what caused her to stay in certain relationships or take selfies or any of that. There are many reasons why women choose to dress certain ways and also many (complex) reasons why women stay in relationships despite abuse. Just like we cannot say with any degree of certainty that she is wearing this outfit in pride, we are also not at liberty to say that she wears it in insecurity, simply seeking approval. It's all a matter of one's upbringing and perspective. As I do not personally find nudity indecent, I chose to view the beauty in her choice of fashion, as I do find the clothing, her figure and the combination of the two quite exquisite and not the least bit offensive. Call me an optimist, but I guess I would rather assume the best in a situation, rather than judge another woman in a negative manner for displaying something that we were all born with anyway. Call me an optimist, but I guess I would rather assume the best in a situation, rather than judge another woman in a negative manner for displaying something that we were all born with anyway. There's only a small number of tribes in Africa that still view topless women as nothing unusual. I don't think there's anywhere else in the world that does this. And I think the way these tribes operate is largely because a lot of them are too poor to buy clothes - most poverty-stricken people in third world countries tend to be very sparsely dressed, after all. So, viewing breasts as non s-xual was actually a learned behaviour because you would see a lot of that in your poor community. And I know some countries have nude beaches and so on, but that's a different thing - it's limiting nudity to a space where everyone is the same rather than fully clothed men and topless women side-by-side. So, I'm not saying that Western culture is the norm everywhere, but regarding the breasts issue, it's true in about 98% of the world. And I don't think the need for women to be topless in public is up there with important issues like women's right to vote and gay marriage. I don't see women rising up demanding to be topless in public. Why do they need to be? Speaking as someone with 38DD's, being topless in public would be so uncomfortable with non-supported breasts weighing me down and I'd have to add sunscreen there too (the sun beaming onto sensitive places like breasts can't be healthy for pale-skinned, sensitive types). Not to mention, I'd have sleazy men eyeing me up or trying to molest me. So, unsurprisingly, not a lot of women seem too keen on the idea. The idea of toplessness is something only a woman with basically no breasts could carry off, which is quite ironic, really. And needless to say, I'm already sick of fashions that could only compliment skinny women with no breasts, hips or bum. We don't need entire ways of life that only work for skinny women. The modelling industry is bad enough as it is. In Rihanna's case, I look at her as someone who is heavily narcissistic one day, and has rock bottom self esteem the next. She boasts a lot and likes to drag, but then does something that suggests she just wants approval at the end of the day. It's safe to say that anyone who stays with someone who hits them doesn't have the confidence to leave. People who are genuinely confident with their appearance don't take constant selfies and go out practically naked. Doing those things suggests fake confidence. That's why it's hard to tell who's genuinely confident and who isn't. But I say that when you add it all up, it begins to make sense. Thing is, she didn't dress like this to show off something that we were all born with. She did it to titillate and nothing more. And as anyone can do that, I don't view it as an artistic statement. Not all forms of nudity are offensive, for example, being a nude model in a life drawing class or being examined medically or teaching about human bodily functions and reproduction. But when nudity is presented as pure s-xual titilliation, it's put into the category of erotica or p0rnography, depending on the extent of it.
