Especially the dancing black and white part. Ppl did not have to tell me. I was like, "is that Madonna"??? Like serriously. What I hate most about all the in your face religious imagery is not the backlash from conservatives, but the fact that Madonna has been there done that. That was iconic for her. Why does Gaga insist on clinging to that. from what the hell this stuff comes? I mean, who told you that Alejandro video harmed her public image? Why does Gaga insist on clinging to that. I think you're just going off your own assumptions and opinions about the Alejandro era. She was not hurt one bit by that whole thing... Even if she was, it would have been very minimal. She went on to debut the BTW single with roughly 700K sold in 7 days (in the US). BTW is what threw it over the edge. I think she will avoid Madonna imagery on her next era. I seriously hope so, but being compared to her is unavoidable now no matter what she does. Ozzy8923 9 Posted June 4, 2012 Share Posted June 4, 2012 You guys have to realize that the majority of Gaga's demographic at that time (Teenagers) didn't even know who Madonna was or (if they did know who she was) were not aware of her past work and controversial religious imagery in her music and music videos. So, what I'm trying to say is that for THIS generation, this was the first pop artist that they had seen ACTUALLY cause controversy based on religion. I mean, think about it, ALL pop artists of the past 10 years have not done anything religiously controversial. So, imo, the Alejandro video was a step UP for Gaga and solidified her influence in the music industry. And, judging by Alejandro's good chart performance/radio airplay, did not affect the song in any way and, due to the success of the single after Alejandro (BTW), did not damage her greatly in the eyes of the general public. Also, the Alejandro video is a masterpiece and I regret saying all those rude things that I said about it when it came out.
