I think we should focus on the new era instead of discussing the same thing over and over again. ARTPOP is over. Gaga moved on and so should everyone.

Now buy MR

I've bought Joanne on iTunes, preordered it off her site before release, and bought another physical copy at Best Buy already.

It was considered pretentious for its concept so critics trashed her which is such a shame because it's a normal good pop album.  My faves are on there :diane:

I love it so much, but let's be honest, she was pretentious as F*CK during the ARTPOP era.

1. the born this way era alienated a lot of people because it took a lot of controvertial stances

2. she was a lot 'weirder' during the born this way era, allowing the media to create a less than favourable public image of her

3. ARTPOP was very pretentious, high art and 'reverse warholian expeditions' are never going to sell on a mass scale

4. its sold 3mil copies, it didn't really flop.

All of this plus the fact we had virtually no promo for ARTPOP. I feel like it would have felt "more successful" if we were shown more promo/ videos/ etc.

I mean it didin't literally flop but was a disappointment by Gaga standards, yeah.

The reasons are probably:

1. The concept was confused and unattractive

2. Her attitude was a bit pretentious at times

3. Had an amazing lead single imo (Applause is sick, I still bop to it HARD) that unfortunately suffered from the comparison/competition of Roar, a bland but radio friendly AF self empowerement song that was literally devoured by the GP

4. Second single mess, management problems, Gaga disappearing for months

5. Gaga's reputation was really bad at the time (I feel that things are MUCH better now in that regard)

I didn't word it in the best way maybe, but people kept taling **** about her, I remember reading some of the nastiest comments ever read on the internet about her... Plus you know, all the fakes, Angela Cheng and co didn't really help lmao

Lack of music videos. Too many drug references (not counting "Dope," which was great). More songs just about fashion, woo. "Just ask your gay friends their advice before you get a spray-tan on holiday in Taipei." References to pieces of art that most people didn't get. I could go on, but I won't. These were just some of the things that I felt were off. If you love ARTPOP, great. I like it. I just don't love it like I do her other albums.

It was mainly mismanagement problems. Her head manager abandoned her at the most important promo time and took his company and empire with him. Without his company the app fell through and all the promises she made were shattered. Interscope gave up on her at that point

Basically she tried to fight the music industry and they fired back hard.

Personally, I believe it's because the GP didn't love BTW. TF was a success and so was TFM, people were bound to pre order and buy her new album. But many of the songs imo aren't GP friendly. So when her new album comes out, ie ARTPOP, they won't buy it because they didn't really like her last one. Therefore, the sales were dramatically decreased.

How was ha reputation bad??:oprah:

- Religious people were offended by Judas

- Non-religious people disliked the Bible/God references all over the BTW album

- Fur scandal in 2012

- Weed promotion throughout all of 2012

- Cancelling a tour doesn't help either

- Weight gain scandal in 2012

- Katy vs Gaga forced pop fans to take sides

- People thought Gaga's talent was at the level of Nicki

- LGBT support started to look like pandering to some

- Madonna controversies

- People still wanted 'The Fame'-Ga.

Bette Davis

1. Poor management

2. Chaotic inconsistent album

3. Overexposure

4. Gaga was in a bad spot with her mental health

5. Poor promotion

6. Her style and attitude at the time had gone from being super polished with a tongue in cheek attitude to really sloppy with a pretentious air

7. Lack of videos

8. The media wanting to tear down someone who was previously untouchable

.. I could give you a Million Reasons, but you should go buy that on iTunes instead. Plus this is getting really depressing :sis: thank God that is over

Cold as ice cream, but still as sweet.
