One of the most iconic albums of all time, True Blue, was released on June 30th 1986. It spawned the hit singles Live To Tell (#1), Papa Don't Preach (#1), True Blue (#3), Open Your Heart (#1) and La Isla Bonita (#4). Live To Tell was  considered a risky choice for a lead single, being a kind of dark, adult, contemporary ballad, a sound that Madonna wasn't known for. Arguably one of Madonna's most recognizable pictures, the album cover was shot by long time collaborator Herb Ritts. The album was mostly inspired and dedicated to Madonna's then husband, Sean Penn.

True Blue was also a turning point in Madonna's style: she left the lace, gloves, scrunchies and necklaces behind, bleached her hair and infused her style with old Hollywood glamour (these looks reached their peak with I'm Breathless/Vogue).

To promote the album she embarked on the Who's That Girl World Tour, Madonna's first world tour reaching Asia, North America and Europe. The tour was also in support of the Who's That Girl soundtrack, released more than a year later. The movie flopped but the soundtrack was a success. While the Blond Ambition Tour is hailed as the first ever modern pop concert, its inception can be traced back to the Who's That Girl World Tour. The show featured seven costume changes and choreography and sets inspired/based on the song's music videos, something that was new back then.

Today it's kind of seen as a lower-tier Madonna album (sans the singles) but it's iconicness cannot be denied :applause:

Madonna's best 80's album. Live To Tell is my favourite Madonna song, and Papa Don't Preach, Open Your Heart & La Isla Bonita are probably all in my top 10. This album is amazing, when you listen to it you can feel the 80's sun on your skin and feel like you're on holidays. I LOVE this album. So joyful & happy music.

I recommand it to everyone who didn't listen to it before.
