And, I Really Like You went to #39 in the Hot 100 so that qualifies as a hit, a three. I said she didnt end up one lol.......

Pop is meant to be generic and catchy? Ever hear the song 'Don't Sing' by Data? It's a great catchy pop song. Nothing generic about it. Pop music derived from rock and roll, and 'Don't Sing' is a pop song which declares war on the regurgitated soulless generic formula of contemporary pop music. It is an ode to rock and roll, appreciates where its genre comes from. Rock and roll is rebellion, is soul, is heart, is mind. Empty, and, as you put it, "generic and catchy" songs aren't enough to constitute pop music. It's an insult to pop music. The generally accepted societal definition of pop music is music which draws on jazz, folk, classical, rock and the fine arts. Nothing generic about it. Pop music isn't "meant" to be anything. The money-grabbing corporations are trying to trick you into thinking that not only is it meant to be something, but whatever that something is, they have it. It's utter nonsense and it isn't so you can enjoy the music, it's to that they can make money. I have to say I can bop along to a lot of the soulless trash out there, but it makes my heart sink when I do to remember the impure intention behind it. Am I going to go all out Illuminati and say that Rihanna and Carly are 'puppets'? No. I think that's a tad melodramatic. But they are certainly the vehicles; fresh, young faces targeted to young mass-audiences. It's a constant system and a constant formula. Wtf sweety Carly is an incredible songwriter. There is a reason why Emotion got 77/100 on metacritic DESPITE being pure pop (which is something that critics hate)..It's EASILY one of the best pop albums of this decade

Secondly disco is a quite large genre. Thirdly its not a damn tribute act cover album but a modern disco album. C'mon, everyone can hear The disco through out. Its just not literal 70's disco boogie or whatever. The mentioned HC tracks sure have some disco/Funk flavours to them but so what. It doesnt make it disco. Its urban. And I know I f.ed up The quote. SlaeUrAnus 15,982
I am so here for this. She has finally found herself as an artist and she knows what she is doing. If she can deliver a masterpiece like Emotion, I have no doubts of her creating a great Disco record. In my messy era.

You over analyze too much. No, I actually don't. I don't 'over'-analyse anything. And for some people, this is their jobs. Had I stated these facts but instead they happened to show the artist in a good light, you wouldn't make the ridiculous statement that I'm over-analysing. You would be happy. You can't just dismiss hard fact as 'over-analysis' just because you disagree and are defensive about the artist. But then again, someone above me didn't like the artist and you stated that they had no taste. That is not only also ridiculous, but it's rude and shows a weak argument. If you have evidence which counters mine, please share. But remember that music is subjective and one man's bop is another man's trash. If you don't have shadows you're not standing in the light.
