Strange? Yes. Surprising? Given the Oscars track record, not so much. They've awarded mediocrity many times before, perhaps more than true greatness.

I don't know about anyone else, but I have yet to hear one music critic or casual listener, in any context, rave about WOTW. From the very beinning, the response was middle of the road.

Anyway, Gaga has now given two iconic Oscars performances in a row, and Sam's song will be forgotten about in a matter of months.

The performance was last night. its far too early to describe it as "iconic"

I am genuinely shocked. It's not often I anticipate a Gaga win (especially these days), but I believed in this one right from the beginning. We had so much reason to believe she had it in the bag. This song was made with a legendary writer who had had 6 previous Oscar nominations. The song was critically acclaimed, as was the movie it came from. All these expert sites were predicting the win for ages and the chance increased as time went on. The song had the most emotional weight out of all the nominees. Sites that have predicted the winner correctly for 6 years running said that it'd win. Actual Academy voters were confessing their love for this song. Gaga was doing the best promo trail out of all the nominees. She was asked to perform at the ceremony for the second year in a row and was the last scheduled performer. The odds were in her favour, completely. When you've got that much support but then don't win, you can't be blamed for being annoyed or even wondering if the Oscar was bought.

After watching her emotional performance, I so wish voting could have been conducted on the night. It would have been a very different winner given the reaction afterwards and the comparison with Sam's tentative, slip-up vocals. That would be a better idea - final voting for Original Song shouldn't be done until all the singers have performed the song on the night and proved that they can perform it well live!

But, no matter, the praise Gaga has received is in a way, better than winning. Maybe winning would have made people have the opposite effect because they'd be more nonchalant about it then. Not winning when she gave THE performance of the night makes people more likely to side for her. Besides, she has many years ahead of her to win an Oscar (and her chances have increased tenfold of winning in the future now) whereas Sam is about to slip off into oblivion along with the other one-album wonders. Trust me, this will be his first and last Oscar nomination/win.

Honestly, I was surprised when I read that she didn't win. I really thought we had this one, and all the predictions, experts... Oh well, she gave a stunning performance!

Look at the bright side. Those people who were raving about how Gaga has been buying awards can't say **** about last night.

Don't worry, they will find a way to spin this

I think that her being nominated for the Oscar was more than a majority of musicians will ever get.  Its was a great honor for her to perform too.

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true

Haha!  I know, but it's pointless to wallow in our sorrows.  Let's just pick ourselves up and move on with our lives.  Gaga is super talented and will win her soon enough.   ;)

I don't care what you think about unless it is about me.

I'm glad you realize this. I don't think she's ever going to get nominated again, let alone win.

We aren't 100 percent sure of his username. He stated in a book that he was a member on GagaDaily in 2010 - ish.

Going into the super old admin archives proved not only very complicated but fruitless, because you never know what username a user could register with if they chose not use their own name.
