StrawberryBlond 14,369
She'll have over a week to sell it, so those numbers should be higher. She just finished her most successful era ever and just got her new album off to a flying start with a massive lead single. She should be selling a million first week, just like Taylor and Gaga did after their most successful eras. So why isn't she? Because unlike Taylor and Gaga, she is a singles artist. It's mostly her fans who buy her album, not the public, and she doesn't have as big a fanbase as other popstars. Casual fans won't buy on the first week - only her devoted fans will, of which she doesn't have many. She also just had one major single before release instead of letting two singles have their time before the album, like TD. Unconditionally isn't taking off the way it was expected to, so she's selling the album purely off the back of Roar and I don't know if one successful single is enough to get the public to purchase on the first week. Two massive singles wasn't enough to get amazing first week sales with TD, so why should Prism be any different? Looks like theories that she'd debut with close to 1 million were just a big bag of hot air. There is of course, also the very plausible reality that the public's listened to the leaked version online, realised how bland and boring it is and just decided to pass on it. TD was a great, fun, guilty pleasure pop album and Prism is a borefest with nothing but mediocre track after mediocre track. The first half sounds like stuff that never made it onto TD because it was too awful and the second half sounds like Katy's trying to be mature and is mistaking maturity for utter blandness. Yet, for some reason, critics are giving it the best reviews of her career. I mean, I can understand why some people didn't like TD, but I didn't expect them to like this. TD may have been generic, but it was probably the best kind of generic music around. Prism is bland generic and that is tiresome.

Americano 31,061
YOUR NEW RELEASES: Katy Perry’s PRISM will bow at #1 next week, selling about 100k more than Teenage Dream did when it debuted in August 2010. Here are this week's key debuts: Katy Perry (Capitol) 270-290k Fifth Harmony (Syco/Epic) 30-35k AFI (Republic) 25-30k DJ Khaled (Cash Money/Republic) 19-23k Tori Kelly (Capitol) 14-17k Initial estimates from Billboard editors and fans had the singer over 500K. In more awkwardness for Katy Perry, her promotional single 'Dark Horse' is holding high above her second single, 'Unconditionally' on American iTunes. With this + and Britney's flop lead single, Gaga fans should be reminded that it's rare that an era goes perfectly and they just need to ride things out.
