mic 1,415
i'm not going to say anything until we get ARTPOP's first week numbers... This. The only one who learnt a lesson
Brian Ryan 1,468
Congrats to Katy. Great sales. I still need to listen to the album it's on my list. I love Unconditionally, Roar, and Dark Horse though.

LaLuna 12,732
No surprise there. Katy's singles always sell like crazy, but her albums don't.

StrawberryBlond 14,923
Not even hitting 300,000? Only debuting with 95,000 copies more than Teenage Dream had? Mess. As I discussed on the UK equivalent of this thread (complete with debut sales charts), these numbers are not befitting an A list pop star who has just finished one of the biggest eras in pop music and has had her lead single go to #1. Back in 2010, Taylor Swift debuted with over a million despite having no #1 singles. In 2011, Beyonce debuted with over 310,000 despite all her singles not even reaching top 10 in the US. Last year, Madonna, despite her age and current status with the public, managed to debut with over 359,000 (a good portion of them were free copies bundled with her tour tickets, but even so). Gaga debuted with 1.1 million with BTW because she was riding on a high of her last two album peaks. So, why isn't Katy getting these numbers? Because she's a singles artist and this must have made that loud and clear to her team. This debut is going to be even more embarassing when you consider all the other releases that have had amazing debut weeks like Yeezus, Magna Carta Holy Grail, Nothing Was The Same, Crash My Party and of course, The 20/20 Experience with nearly 1 million sales. Even Part 2, which the public didn't seem the least bit interested in, debuted with 350,000. Yeah, when you get numbers like that first week despite universally flopping with your singles, you know you're here to stay. I sometimes wonder how Katy's career will fare in the future, seeing how she's almost 30 and won't be able to pull off this pop image for much longer and the public clearly aren't interested in her more artistic songs. She arguably is bigger than she ever has been, and probably ever will be at this point and she couldn't even cross 300,000k. That has got to be quite disappointing to her team. I am shocked at how low the numbers were. She was coming off one of the biggest eras in pop music ever. Take the Gaga/Katy comparisons out of the equation, those numbers are awful. While we would absolutely go nuts and say Gaga is finished if ARTPOP opens with those numbers, but in all fairness, Gaga with those #'s after coming off her messy ass BTW era wouldn't be as disappointing. That's basically it. And that's the way I'm looking at Gaga's future sales too. If the worst does come to the worst and she does debut with the same figures as Katy (I can guarantee she will at very least match those numbers), we'll be disappointed as fans, but it won't make sense to call her a flop because she hasn't had a US #1 single from this era or been doing high levels of promotion there, so it'll be a triumph to get figures like that. Once you start getting massive hit singles, it puts the pressure on you for amazing first weeks. Can you imagine how Gaga would have fallen down in the public's perception immediately if she sold 287k with BTW after her mega hit of a lead single? So, if we look at it this way, there's no pressure on her to do as well this time around.

Pookie Mami 0
Her label predicted half a million and she's no where near that number. I know Gaga hates fan wars, but this made my day. BloodyMaryJane 7
What...who? Who says shes the queen. How delusional! Its everywhere in the net, girl. Just because she keeps getting number 1 hits, people already call her the Queen, like wtf. :)) She was also labelled "queen of pop" when she performed in X Factor Austrailia. :/
