AbuHassan1992 766
I don't know how I'd feel about managing a one-hit wonder. how can you write her off as a one hit wonder when she just dropped a 2nd single?
StrawberryBlond 14,672
Troy seems to be a bit of an opportunist these days. It always surprises me when a manager/songwriter/producer parts from a hugely talented, mega successful act and then proceeds to work with untalented/barely successful/one hit wonder type acts (not saying that Meghan is either of the former two, but the last one is debatable). It's like, is this their idea of revenge or something? I remember when Scott Storch worked with Xtina and then they had that bust up and he parted ways with her to make music for Paris Hilton. It's like...how do they think this is a better career move? If I was a manager, I personally wouldn't sign up with most new acts until they had proved themselves with a second album. In today's world, you can be yesterday's news so fast and what may seem like the best idea at the time will be the opposite in a few months. So many artists release their debut, are a huge success, and then nobody cares after that. That's why, if you find an artist like Gaga who still maintains acceptable success after a few albums, you never let them go, as they're worth their weight in gold these days. For those of you saying that we can't call Meghan a one hit wonder yet because she's only released 2 singles or she's had 2 hits or it's simply too soon to say...sometimes you just know. I've been keeping tabs on all the new acts from 2012 and onwards and the ones that I deemed one hit wonders, I was spot on for. Gotye, Passenger, Psy, fun., Carly Rae Jepsen, Lorde, Clean Bandit, Magic! and now Meghan. I can usually tell because their lead single is, most of the time, very different from what the public want, yet it somehow becomes a hit. But I know the public will not continue to support this sound or be interested in a whole album like this and thus, they're doomed to be one hit wonders. Now, I know that some of these acts went on to have more than one hit (Psy, fun, Carly, Lorde, Clean Bandit, Meghan), but here's the thing - the second hit doesn't usually go on to be remembered over time. I watch this music reviewer frequently and he has a section called One Hit Wonderland where he examines one hit wonders from years gone by and something he frequently brings up is that the act actually had a second hit but because the public have all but forgotten, it still makes them a one hit wonder. As he says: "They became consigned to long list of one hit wonders who technically have a second hit." I'm sure a lot of people would agree that Gentleman was nowhere near as popular, big or culturally impactful like Gangnam Style was. Same for Good Time vs. Call Me Maybe. Some Nights vs. We Are Young. Team vs. Royals and so on and so forth. And also, after the second hit, they fade away. Another thing you have to consider is that just because the artist is a big hit in your country, doesn't mean they're a hit worldwide. People like Lorde were massive in the US but not so abroad. Her debut sold 1.5 million in the US alone, but just 1.2 million from the rest of the world. And Team was only a hit in the US and her home country. And it can work in reverse as well. You've always got to look at things from an overall perspective. Lips Are Movin' has only been a top ten in English speaking countries and has flopped everywhere else. It'll only be a hit in the UK at the end of the month because its been on pre-order for a while now.

Just putting in my two cents. As for everyone else, I agree. Kind of sad what happened to Carly, though. She had so much potential but she was not as ambitious to push for that second hit. But I also agree that these days, the definition of a one-hit wonder has become quite misconstrued. Nowadays, its simply a term to describe an artist that only has one major hit and although there may be a second hit, that does not take away from an artist being a one hit wonder. I'm kind of surprised about Meghan being picked up by Troy. Like, can she really pull off that second hit stump like Ariana? I don't know and neither of us know but plenty of us have an idea
touchmetouchme 0
Eh? Idrc Megan has 2 good songs I know but I never saw her lasting longer. She doesn't have youth appeal & she's young too :air:

ItsTommyBitch 12,640
Run Meghan run You have a chance without him! He will shoehorn ha music to death and we will never hear ha true potential with him -.- Though he might keep her relevant for longer... the struggle! Kiss by Carly Rae Jepsen remains as one of my favorite pure bubblegum pop albums of the 2010s still btw :madge: She would have sold better if she didnt wait so long to release an album... also, I feel like she showed off her chops and personality a lot less and worse than Meghan is doing. People remembered Call me Maybe for being a soulless bop, not because Carly sang it, and most people couldn't describe what she even looked like, let a lone how she seemed as a person. I feel like people connect more to Meghan and her appearance is a lot more memorable. Hope i'm right, I honestly really want her to at least make it to a second album. People calling Ariana a one hit wonder though still :sweep: EDIT* Not Billboard claiming that this album might sell over 180k though? I was thinking 100k max and just a low week for taylor, oh my god. Inb4 its lower, but seriously slay a bit. Does this mean that people actually like her outside of this stanbase? 私自身もこの世の中も誰もかれもが, どんなに華やかな人生でも, どんなに悲惨な人生でも, いつかは変貌し, 破壊され、消滅してしまう. すべてがもともとこの世に存在しない一瞬の幻想なのだから

Dr Rogoe 23
That was actually very kind of him to state he was fired.
