I was describing a genre you are all certainly familiar with.

 

I'm sure you know titles such as The Middle, Stay, Never Really Over, All The Pop Songs In ASIB, 

When I tried to search for the genre of the hit song "The Cure" I was met with this

clearly google has failed me, so I need to take matters into my own hands.

 

by making you guys figure it out for me

 

so what is this genre called?

 

it has:

rnb influence

melodramatic chord progressions

plucky sine intro ostinatos

vocal chops along with that into

finger snaps

singers you forgot existed

vocoded backing vocals

a chorus that builds up to a post chorus with those vocal chops and a distorted flute solo or smth

closely related to French dance and tropical house

 

TELL ME GGD.

I kinda know what you talking about, but I don't think there's a specific term to describe this trend.

So I think it's just electropop? Like, water down EDM-inspired electropop.

I believe I've heard some people refer to it as retail pop? At its core it's family-friendly, inoffensive, upbeat dance music that's partially bland (The Middle, Closer, etc.) that you'd hear at the mall while shopping

Not every song has a specific genre though, that sound definitely borrows from tropical house but with a minimalist approach…I’d say
