What about Best Album cover? Any cover that might challenge Harlequin? Are they pushing HQ's cover and the story behind it or not? Does it have any chances at winning and if it does, will Gaga be credited? If I remember correctly she was part of the people who had the idea :oprah:

Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” will probably win that if I had to take a guess. Since it’s a new category we don’t have past winners to have an idea of what type of covers win. I can see Lorde, Harlequin, Brighter Days Ahead, I quit and Wishbone being nominated simply for being very pretty and well done covers. But wether they’ll value art direction more than concept is any bodies guess.

I’d still say Bad Bunny wins this cause his cover is just…really significant. If you’re Latino, you look at that cover and the weight and culture it holds is simply unmatched, as simple as it may be. It probably looks like just two simple plastic chairs to most Americans, but for us it speaks a thousand words and given how political his album is, in the state of America today, it’s the perfect winner between execution and concept. I don’t think any other artist has a cover like that this year. Maybe Lorde’s “Virgin” also achieves a great relationship between the concept of transparency and vulnerability and the album’s meaning, but to me it’s missing that mass intimacy that Bad Bunny achieved.

Harlequin is a very pretty cover but it doesn’t achieve much other than pay tribute to mental issues and it’s pretty much a replica of an existing photo of a mental asylum I think. I don’t know if not being 100% original will take points off. Plus it’s attached to Joker 2 in a way so that could deter it down. And Mayhem’s cover I personally feel like it doesn’t achieve anything visually. The idea of her being fractured but still be able to look at herself in the mirror definitely goes with Mayhem’s meaning, but it’s not a very pretty art direction.

Yes Latin Grammys implemented this change but according to The Grammy Guru, at least the Recording Academy has yet to decide how they are going to deal with the alphabet bias. Maybe we’ll find out soon if the ballots changes or if they still did it in alphabetical order

It's confirmed now the Recording Academy is also doing it!
Still think Gaga can benefit for the popularity of her name being one of the first for voters to look for

Makes sense to do it following the Latin Grammys!

Personally I would’ve wished they didn’t for this year cause Abracadabra would’ve been at the very top for SOTY and due to her and Kendrick being in the same group she would’ve benefited from his own hype…but I’m confident enough that she can score all nominations on the big three general field categories without alphabetical advantage.

And the Random order might help if it bumps her to the top on some ballots. At the very least, it’s not hiring anyone but rather making it fair for everyone.

oh yeah we had it locked for SOTY this year and being close to kendrick in performance categories. hopefully they will namecheck her when remembering the biggest artists of the year since randomized will make so many exhausted, thats around of what happened at the Latin Grammys

Its never going to be a 100% perfect system. If it’s in alphabetical, people won’t look at all nominees, especially those with later letters. If it’s randomize, some will search for the songs they want while other will probably not even bother taking the time to ctrl F and search, so they will end up nominating the first songs they recognize in the top of their ballot. :ladyhaha:

I'm scared about this because I see it happening :selena: She won this year so let's hope they don't want to give her two in a row :icant:

I wanna believe that Gaga is respected enough in the jazz field due to her relationship with Tony. And she's definitely appealing to the voters emotions with that foreword in the box set. She very explicitly included this was the first jazz album she did without Tony and how that felt, that his spirit was there, almost like implying she's continuing the work and knowledge he gifted her, that she's an extension of him. Jazz wasn't just a side project that she did a couple of times, it changed her fundamentally. I think she can pull off the win just as much as I think she could lose it.
