If you have zero historical knowledge and media literacy just say that.

Stay in school, kids!

It’s like people have never heard of race eugenics before  :saladga:

The tagline is ‘Sydney sweeney has good genes’ but then it’s crossed off with ‘jeans’ instead. Feels very eugenics/N*zi rhetoric screenshot_2025-07-29_214519.png?w=608&a

Here’s another ad that just recently came out with a white person, apropos of nothing, talking about their genes. I’m sure it’s nothing, though

In this context, you sound like an idiot. No offense though

Agreed. I, more specifically, miss living in Germany between 1933-1945 when this type of rhetoric was encouraged!

This is only problematic if you search for it. At the end of the day it's simply an American Eagle ad...like are we really discussing this as being Nazi rhetoric? Sometimes (believe it or not) things are created to just send a simple message...like selling jeans. I think people are thinking way to deep about this - lets move on and actually care about the world's problems.

One would think that after the atrocities of Nazi Germany and WW3 we would know better to recognize these things as a society. We literally are seeing latinos in a ****ing concentration camp, Alligator Alcatraz.

Context is key and this ad doesn't come out of nowhere.

Drop it

Nah, best case scenario AE was fully aware that this would generate blowback so it would go viral, but don’t endorse the actual implication. There’s no world where advertisers for a multi-million dollar corp would run ad copy that could even remotely be construed as racist without being aware of it lmao

There was a completely different way this ad could have been made and still used the same concept.

They purposefully did it this way to cause controversy in a time when fascism is quickly taking over US society and minorities are being ostracized.

To people not getting why people are criticizing this: it's like when marriage equality was in the courts during election season and republican candidates suddenly started emphasizing their spouse and children while talking about "family values". Not necessarily a spooky bad thing on its face until you realize in context it's a backhanded way to say they're against marriage equality.

Now, fascism in America is on the rise and literal nazis in government are being more open about their intentions. The president is talking about immigrants "poisoning the blood of our country". Trad wives are setting trends on tiktok. The intelligence of Black and Brown governmental candidates are being discounted because their ethnic features don't adhere to eurocentric beauty standards. "Low IQ" is now a go-to insult more conservative people use on others belonging to minority groups. And now we're getting multiple cheeky national adverts with conventionally attractive white people talking their  "desirable" genetic makeup.

Eugenics. It's dogwhistling eugenics. Race theory that masquerades as science to justify white supremacy. That's why advertisements suddenly popping up with "hot" white people bragging about their genes is gross and messed up.
