SEANGT 5,280
I think it is. It's what she's been trying to say this whole time I think. And it's good. That's how I think of that
Monstermilo 4,489
its cool i dont think its better than TF/TFM/BTW Edited March 8 by Monstermilo
StrawberryBlond 14,836
Still believe BTW is her opus. But Mayhem's right up there. It's probably my third favourite after BTW and TFM, definitely her best album since BTW. She sounds the most passionate she's ever done on a studio project, the lyrics are good, production is fire, she's trying out new things and giving us a reflection of the past as well. It's so great to see the critics agree. It was definitely made to be a commercial hit but this is good commercial stuff, through and through. Hoping to post a review tomorrow, for anyone wondering. But (at least when originally writing this) I don't think it was meant to be. And that's not just ok, but great! It's still a *great* album! EDIT: Well, great. Now I'm not entirely sure of myself, because it just keeps growing on me more and more You know what? I'm just gonna enjoy the mayhem lmao Alright y'all, update after listening to this album even more: No skips. Every single song is so good. And together it's just so great. This is Gaga's best album thus far. Better than even The Fame, TFM, and BTW. Yeah, I said it. Whether or not it's Gaga's magnum opus depends on her future works. HermesG 1,600
Now BTW is. Maybe close after that? Idk for sure yet
Vengaboy 1,281
It’s too early to say in my opinion. But Born This Way will forever be the one I think.
Brazilwood 4,205
Maybe she will put out even better albums in the future, so I can't say Mayhem is her opus. But I can't help but feel her past albums are a bit "childish" musically compared to Mayhem. I love Born This Way but nowadays it's reading a lot to me like music made for teenagers. Her past work to me is frozen in a period of time, both in the zeitgeist of the world and in my life and everytime I listen to them it feels like it worked for that moment and now it doesn't hit anymore the same way. Mayhem feels like it's music for grown up little monsters (except Garden of Eden, that song makes me feel teenage-y too, but I love the production). BeyonkaAte 429
Ask me again in a couple of years, but for right now i'd say yes, neck and neck with Born This Way, and TFM not far behind them.
KennyRichie 1,981
Her magnum opus is somewhere between The Fame Monster and Born This Way
Kaevin95 156
I changed my idea about the album, was not a fan at beginning but the more i listen to it the more i love it, i just skip Killah and Blade of Grass. Imo her magnum opus is still BTW but this is a second one
Ziggy 11,792
I'll say I think BTW and TF and TFM are but only because she had a bit more daring on those and also very clear, ownable concepts and sounds that were HERS. Mayhem can't really beat those because it iterates on those. Which is a great thing bc it's a fantastic album. But the source material can't be beat imo. Mayhem is happy and elated to be in her bags, the former 3 had a hunger and drive to define them. They def exist well together. 1
