Galagala 4,561
Screaming voice, heavy instrumentals.... it's tiring to listen to it actually. Edited November 11 by Galagala

If Gaga and her team felt the need to try grab a chart hit, they would’ve done everything possible to try force that to happen (physicals, performances, merch, multiple versions, try-hard viral attempts etc). They didn’t, and therefore we need to accept that inorganic chart success isn’t a priority (because ultimately, the song has been received incredibly successfully by those who matter). 2. Gaga is in her late 30’s, has nothing left to prove, and rather than trying to force herself back into the cultural landscape required to get a chart topper, she’s releasing music the fans want and she wants to make. Harlequin, Disease, DWAS are all examples of creations born out of the desire to create, not to pander (thank god). 3. If, IF, any of her music from here on becomes successful on the charts it’ll be due to an organic, it-is-what-it-is approach exactly what we saw with DWAS. Everyone was praising the fact that song was such an organic hit on the charts without any crazy pushes. This will happen sometimes, sometimes not. Again - it is what it is. 4. Stop trying to equate the random chart success of a song to your enjoyment of it. Gaga clearly doesn’t, so why should you? The "Chart doesn't matter" argument is so pretentious. It's one of the things that supports and extends one's career (Beyonce still has a great song at #1 in 2024), especially when Gaga is by no means an independent artist. There are too many examples how consecutive flop commercial performances will make one big star fall and fade away. That's what we're worrying. As for Gaga herself, she always enjoy attention, popularity and success. As for your second point, we don't even know if she considers Disease just a "fan-service song". She might expect GP to love it as much as they did with DWAS. Edited November 11 by Galagala 2

If we want a #1 chaser we can stan Drake or any of these bland ones.
tyler k 4,734
There's no promo, end of story the song is fantastic but no lead single will perform well if it's not promoted. mmmy name ~isn't~ aliceee
Nathaniel Arven 1,594
i'm tired of this headline. It's only flopping in the charts reality. If you love it, then it's not flopping. 1 1

Schwerk 6,983
It's one of my favorite songs, I only wish it was released sooner so I could've become a Halloween hit. I don't think people are in the mood for it anymore and want to cosy up for Christmas. Also thematically there might be an urge for more comforting songs with all that's going on worldwide. According to Gaga I'm a ****ing rad bitch
Lucas 23,948
I think promo is the major factor though. We know that Gaga's music relies A LOT on promotion for success.
princedeeblebleble 512
No promo, no merch, no preformances, no public presence = low charting numbers :P Like if Katy wasn't boycoted for working with... someone and the songs weren't utter scheiße, she'd probs have much higher numbers, now if she "promoted" the way Gaga is... it'd be even worse :P
LeafBug 7,254
I think Gaga should wait to Feb, put out another single and start over. Disease just isn’t something the GP will like. It’s even more experimental than anything on BTW. But based on her recent TikTok comments I think more promo is coming. Juanlittlem 41,504
People saying DWAS had no promo when it had 2 Vegas performances + pop up stores + physicals and MV ready on release day. allanrocks 211
I’d also include the lack of choreography on the music video as a reason for low views
Naufri 7,156
Didn't connect with GP and that's it. Some live performances could help, but most people doesn't promote that way anymore so...
monketsharona 51,524
Not everything needs to smash or being big hit figures tbh It has never been the case for Lady Gaga anyway. We are lucky Gaga had some regular hits over her +15 years in the business, let's be happy about it. She has literally the biggest song released this year running right now as well and still growing in success. And let's not forget other LG7 tracks will be released. And Disease could also still have its moment. She has clearly plans for it. Also let's not forget Lady Gaga tracks are often slow burners. Most of the TF / TFM hits tooks ages to smash. Millions Reasons took months to happen. Judas is now one of her biggest trendy cult songs while underperforming in 2011. ARTPOP only gained in popularity and reviews a couple years ago. 1
