In comparison, I'm white as a sheet. It's not about changing historical facts. It's about a fascination with whiteness. Hollywood is not out here making movies about Egyptian characters. Choosing who to focus on is part of racial bias.

So should they not do a movie about Cleopatra because she wasn't Egyptian-looking enough? Even though she's one of the most important rulers of Ancient history? You see, that's an example where political correctness and woke culture is really falling short imo. 1

In all fairness, I think Gaga is more than a decent Italian. She’s a great Italian!

Anti-racism isn't falling short by pointing out that Hollywood's decision to make ANOTHER movie about a white woman in Egypt is indicative of its overemphasis on white stories with glamorous Eurocentric looking movie stars.
JazzGa 14,458
I would love to see Gaga portray a historical figure!! I think there is a lot of pressure for a Hollywood movie to cast a brown skinned actress as Cleopatra. Even though people always bring up the historical "she was actually Greek" argument, there is probably still a lot of pressure to make an Egyptian queen represent an American idea of diversity. BUT personally I would LOVE to see Gaga play an ancient Greek historical or mythological figure whether or not it's Cleopatra. There are so many other great characters to choose from. And Gaga's looks and profile are great for playing a Grecian beauty. What if she played Helen of Troy? I've taken a few dips in the lady pond
gagzus 14,467
In 2024 i don’t think it would be wise for Gaga to take the role of a “black” character (whether you believe she is or not most people believe she is) so I hope she has nothing to do with this

It does not matter what 23andMe you think you have to "prove" she was white. A Hollywood movie set in Egypt about a white woman will always have a stink to it. I think Gaga knows this. Angelina, however, did black face to try and win an Oscar. So evidently, she does not. Have at it Angie! Cleopatra was from Europe so yes this fits Gaga lol. Why must she be played by an Arab person?

Maxine Puth 9,052
It must be so wild for Gaga to have grown up being told she was too ethnic and too Mediterranean to play lead roles to now where she’s just not ethnic enough (to play a Mediterranean woman). Babel 41,210
But what if the fact that Cleopatra didn't look like a commoner egyptian at the time actually plays a part in the movie. Maybe then a remake of this story could actually make sense by having more relevance today.
InTheCloset 17,754
Didnt Gal Gadot already get this role? Where's the spunk, Adam?

Like the struggle of a) being a female leader in ancient times and b) having to lead people who are completely different from you, trying to win over their support and learn their customs / culture? If I remember correctly, Cleopatra was the first in her family to actually embrace the Egyptian culture, so yeah it definitely could become a good story if used. Ivannn 1,079
11 hours ago, RichAssPiss said: Yes. As I said, it doesn't matter. A movie about a white woman in Egypt is never going to not be controversial. Maybe in America, but egyptians Are very Well Aware WHO Cleopatra was and know their history. That is why Netflix ( Jada P Smith ) Cleopatra documentary caused an outrage. I do not see how making this film while sticking to more obvioua historical facts could be controversial.
