A detainee in the Detention and Preventive Arrest Center of the Capital Police tried to dig a tunnel through which to escape, but he was caught and received new charges on the file, and the investigations inside the institution are ongoing.

On Monday, the officials of the Romanian Police informed that the officers of the General Directorate of Police of the Municipality of Bucharest - Detention and Preventive Arrest Center found that the plastering of a wall in the window area, in a cell, was destroyed on January 11.

It's the translation of the article from Romanian.  In Romanian we use "libertate" for "freedom" (similar to French). I think this is why it sounds funny. And when someone goes to jail, it's said he is a person deprived/ lacking freedom.
