If there is no way to transparently count the plays for every single song played outside the streaming platforms as you state ( i must confess I can partly understand your argumentation )  then that means that charts are failing, that  they are not really able to count the real power of a song but only a part of it...so why should we consider charts so relevant...Moreover one of the metrics of BB charts Is radio. What can be more manipulated than this? Is this real? A group of radio managers decide for the mass what Is popular or should be popular!

charts have never ever in the history of the modern music industry been based on what is played at sporting events and such (this could also be manipulated by deranged fans playing their own favorite songs at such events).

If people are streaming certain songs more than others on the most relevant streaming platforms, I don't see how this isn't a reliable source for the charts? It works in Gaga's favor when she has a successful song on the streaming platforms.

..because charts in general and in particular the abysmal  BB single chart are based on metrics ( radio, streaming , Digital Sales ) that alone are not able to measure the real popularity of a Song...examples.? ..everyone Is speaking about the Cramp' s Song  or Bloody Mary...It Is REPLICATED everywhere in private circles, in sport circles in TV shows...everwhere...this big, big, big, big part of popularity is not considered by the metrics of BB chart  . both songs  are big but no room in BB chart...All tracks but Antihero of the abysmal and depressing Midnights album are top ten singles. Are they so popular, do people really knows them that well as singles? No .No...No...No... They were just top ten singles for one week because the depressing and abysmal ( for me )  Midnight album Is so popular. It Is the album the real driving force as a metric. As a single all these TS tracks from Midnights ( apart from Antihero ) are much less popular than Bloody or Go Go Muck... To consider all the tracks from Midnight as a single is a slap in the face for all artists who are not so popular or rich or previledged as that she..ty girl with a father buying her a record deal.  These younger artists  should also have a chance to shine.

I never said that streaming platforms  are not reliable sources. I agree with you that they are reliable. What I want to underline Is that streaming platforms only partiaLLy reflect and measure the popularity of a certain Song. Popularity Is much more than success in a streaming platform . Popularity Is for example the cultural impact of something as for example Bloody Mary, the Goo goo Mack Song or the WEDNESDAY dance. Anyway I agree with you again when you Say that It Is very difficult to detect and measure the popularity of a Song outside streaming platforms.

Honestly, I think the answer is Christmas. In January, when all the Christmas songs have disappeared, it should have its chart moment.

yeah hopefully next week as it is slowly climbing up radio

yes, I agree... but these are such subjective categories that they simply cannot influence the charts. It has always been like this... sometimes a song didn't make it big in the sales department, or airplay, or downloads or whatever, but it still has a huge impact.

For example, can you believe that George Michael's "Freedom '90" was a flop in the UK charts?

Yeah.. it means it is #104-#105.. but it is placed after songs that I've never heard of?? Like how?? :messga:

Well it has no radio support rn (which despite a falling relevance relative to before is still a considerable amount of points for the charts) and I think streaming in services like apple have not necessarily been as strong as on Spotify

Spotify on its own can only do so much for a songs chart position
