Paper Planes

Madonna scores the top ranking on the first Hot Tours tally of 2013 with $51.9 million in box office revenue from six of the final dates on her MDNA Tour that wrapped on December 22.

The first of the six venues included in this week's Hot Tours recap is the last of 30 North American venues on the tour schedule, American Airlines Arena in Miami. The 19,500-seat arena sold a total of 27,976 tickets for concerts on November 19 & 20 grossing over $5.2 million. The tour's Latin American trek followed, kicking off with a two-show run in Mexico City just four days later. The Mexican capital city's sports and concert venue, Foro Sol hosted the legendary entertainer on November 24 & 25 with 84,382 tickets sold for both performances. Four additional South American venues are included in the weekly Hot Tours report - two shows in Colombia and four in Brazil. The MDNA Tour, which launched back in May, was ranked as Billboard's top-grossing tour of 2012.

Lady Gaga lands at No.2 on this week's Hot Tours chart based on ticket sales reported from venues in Latin America, Africa and Europe during the Born This Way Ball's final seven weeks on the road in 2012. The Latin American dates began with an October 26 performance at Foro Sol in Mexico City and continued until November 26 with a final concert in Asunción, Paraguay. The tour then played two stadium dates in South Africa - Johannesburg on November 30 and Cape Town on December 3 - and ended the year with concerts in Norway and Russia, wrapping on December 12 in Moscow. Gaga kicks off her 2013 North American tour leg on January 11 in Vancouver.

Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Rush and Leonard Cohen round out the top five slots on this week's ranking of top 10 tours with box office grosses reported from their fourth quarter touring efforts. Young's Alchemy Tour earns the No. 3 ranking with over $13.7 million in ticket sales from 14 shows at U.S. and Canadian arenas as well as one outdoor amphitheater, the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

Canadian rock band Rush is fourth with $12.7 million in box office revenue reported from the final 17 dates on the North American leg of the Clockwork Angels Tour that launched on September 7 and ran through December 2. Cohen is No. 5 for the week with reported totals from performances at six North American venues during December.

Well, I'm really tired of this whole competition. :nails: They didn't even mention that Gaga entertained over 100,000 more people than Madonna did, and when it really boils down to it, isn't that really what matters: How many people you can entertain? Not how much money you can wring out of people per ticket?

Gaga had a higher attendance though. Madonna just costs more. Since when did more money equal bigger tour?

I just think it's interesting how Gaga is only on her second tour but they have to compare her to the top grossing solo touring artist ever because if they compared her to any of her contemporaries, she would absolutely demolish them.

Congratulations to Madonna though

If Gaga's tickets where as expensive as hers she probably wouldn't have done as well  Madonna is a legend who is able to draw a crowd with expensive tickets. The GP thinks she is worth it.

It is so incredible that Gaga is only being compared with touring legends :legend: She slays her contemporaries.

God. I would be pressed if I were Madonna. She's always compared to a pop singer only four years into her career versus her 30.

Madonna is still selling, but she suffered a major drop since her last album.

MDNA flopped, she had 0 hit singles and the new tour sold only half of what her last tour did:
