She’s one of the original X-Men, a character whose empathy is as defining as her extraordinary psychic abilities, yet whose live-action legacy has often been overshadowed by the cosmic spectacle of the Phoenix Force. With her arrival in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Marvel Studios faced a delicate balancing act: introduce an icon without rushing towards the mythology that has so often consumed her. Spider-Man understands that challenge. Rather than treating Jean as a future event waiting to happen, the film allows audiences to meet the young woman first. Even in quieter scenes, there’s an unmistakable sense that Jean’s mind is never entirely at rest.
