Dr Fudge 8,599
1. Lyrically: I’d say BTW is the leader, but it’s not a perfect album lyrically either. Some songs have absolutely stunning well thought out lyrics like The Queen, HML, and Bloody Mary, but others are too simple for my tastes (Bad Kids and Government Hooker- still fun songs, just not strong lyrics) 2. Visually: ARTPOP and Chromatica 3. Vocally: Excluding ASIB, of pop albums Chromatica shows tremendous range (although I think The Fame is her only album that didn’t really have strong vocals, so this was super hard to pick) 4. Overall: BTW and Chromatica based on these metrics, but it’s like picking a favorite child when you actually like your kids soooo Been a cuff touple, a puff bupple, a tough couple of years. IWBWU is so cheesy, while Dope is honest and dark... idk i always thought that Dope is superior! and yes Dope is definitely one of her best songs ever imo. Don't get me wrong, IWBWU was cute and sweet and a really nice love letter to her fans, but Dope has more impact. Also, we already know she loves us, we don't need a song to tell us. And we did get it anyway! At the Swinefest and also the studio version that leaked I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
Mother of Puppies 35,695
I feel like I need to highlight some of Chromatica's lyrics as it's been teared down in here. 1000 Doves Lift me up, give me a start 'Cause I've been flying with some broken arms Lift me up, just a small notch And I'll be flying like a thousand doves .... I'd do anything for you to really see me I am human, invisibly bleeding I've been hurting, stuck inside a cage So hard, my heart's been in a rage 911 my biggest enemy is me (GENIUS because it speaks to so many people and I've never really heard anyone say this so straight to the point) ... This is biological stasis My mood's shifting to manic places Fun Tonight Feeling something that I can't explain Think it's a wound I still entertain I'd do anything to numb the flame I guess I'm just on fire these days I can't see straight, I can't see me There's too much hurt caught in between Replay Every single day, yeah, I dig a grave Then I sit inside it wondering if I'll behave It's a game I play and I hate to say You're the worst thing and the best thing that's happened to me Enigma Can't stop staring, I'm so naked Wrapped in shadows, my heart races Dragon's eyes watch, goddess breathing Give me something to believe in Is what I am seeing real, or is it just a sign? Is it all just virtual? And I would dare to say that Babylon is one of the most complex songs she has ever written... I remember there was a thread on here where we discussed what exactly it means... everybody had kind of a different approach. The word game in it is so genius and u can tell it's very thought through. This is the BEST part of a song ever... to me that is Strut it out, walk a mile Serve it, ancient city style Talk it out, babble on Battle for your life, Babylon ... We only have the weekend You can serve it to me, ancient city style We can party like it's B.C. With a pretty 16th-century smile .. Bodies moving like a sculpture (ooh) On the top of Tower of Babel tonight We are climbing up to Heaven (Heaven) Speak in languages in a BloodPop moonlight THEY CALL ME LADY MOP

Lextyr97 19,116
I used to think Chromatica was because of the way it talks about mental health, but now, I think Born This Way is the best again. It’s her most imaginative album, and the songs are written in a way that I have never seen anyone else do. The topics front to back that she wrote about for that album were written so damn well in a fun and boppy way.

The "smartest" thing she did on the album was replace "sign" with "sine" and compare pain to rain Meanwhile, with every other album, she's making allusions, striking metaphors, and painting puzzles with her words. "Please retweet" is more inspired than the entirety of Sour Candy "I will fly on the Challenger across the sky" is more poetic and powerful than 1000 Doves could ever be. Why "strut it out, walk a mile, serve it ancient city style" when I can "step into the light, display your diamonds and pearls in my FASHION! Married to the night, we own the world, we oooown the woooorld". Even Jewels n' Drugs is more lyrically inspired than most of the stuff on Chromatica That's my opinion at least Still a 10/10 album but I'm ready for the rain of hate regardless Oddly enough my favorite album, Joanne, is the one I'd consider the most poorly written so Replay alone would like to have a word with you mmmy name ~isn't~ aliceee
