I’ve randomly stumbled upon Admin’s posts on Instagram, and I can’t stop thinking about how amazing it must feel to experience MAYHEM for the first time.

I’m so with you! I hope you’re having the time of your life! I am too. This is such a happy moment. Gaga having a baby and you being back with us… it all feels so incredibly special.

Thank you! ❤️

The fame-BTW are her best eras imo, and mayhem comes right after

As memory serves me a lot of those eras were massive messes, especially The Fame era. I get that she established her mythos but a lot of stuff people hate nowadays about her cycles originates from the beginning. Label interference, random non-music related collaborations, singles switching, messy album roll outs and more.  Even her themes and what the albums were “about” changed from interview to interview.

Mayhem probably has been her best era in terms of content and concise theme. Not to mention creatively it’s been her best imo.

Omg nooooooooo I lived through the fame right at its start and it was an amazing era. So many beautiful performances, full set and acoustic, so many iconic OUTFITS and LOOKS for NO REASON! It was an amazing time to be a Gaga fan and Gaga always say how she took pride in being the hardest working person in the music industry and it really showed because she was always booked and busy

also single switching and messy album roll out?? Are you talking about ARTPOP? Cause I never said that era was good LOL

also the fame has a stronger more clear theme than mayhem

I was pretty sure it would be a good few years till her next album so I wanted to listen to Mayhem gradually over maybe a week to really give each song it's own moment and I really liked experiencing the album that way. Kind of like watching a show over a week instead of binge watching in one go which I can't do and it trips me out others do.

I still have about 75% of Requiem left to watch too which I'm looking forward to

I lived through them all, the content she gave us was great but it was disjointed and made absolutely no sense. Also for the first almost year of The Fame she wore mostly the same 3 outfits (she literally said that herself) all of which were her own knock offs of Armani outfits in white and black/gold and clear crystal. She didn’t really start serving “looks” till late 2009/early 2010 because McQueen and her collaboration changed the relationship between celebrities and fashion houses—before Bad Romance you could only buy RTW outfits and not high fashion, you couldn’t even RENT high fashion so all of Gaga’s outfits were clothes regular people could buy before Bad Romance just styled differently than the average person. Even her early TF tour outfits were kinda DIY and not great till she went to do festivals in Europe when Just Dance/Poker Face took off.

And yes, both TF, TFM and Born This Way had massive problems with the single roll outs.
The Fame and The Fame Monster both had like a confusing amount of radio singles vs official singles. The Fame has like 3 singles going confusingly at the same time when BDR, Eh Eh and LoveGame were out. One was a single in some European countries, one in Australia and one in the US before LoveGame became a worldwide official single.

The Fame Monster had the same problem with Monster, DITD and Alejandro before Alejandro became the single. She also randomly whipped out The Fame tracks like Brown Eyes for no reason whilst promoting Telephone in Europe.

She became the creative director of Polaroid and it just fell off after being announced. She had a tour with Kanye West announced and then cancelled. The Monster Ball 1.0 was then hobbled together with little to no theme and budget.

Around Judas/TEOG/Hair time. They rushed to make The Edge of Glory a single purely because it was doing decently and Judas was getting whacked. It was originally released and promoted only as a promo single along with Hair.

TEOG had an entire video cancelled and made in a few days that the fans hated. She performed album songs randomly alongside promo singles and official singles on shows, which is fun for us but is absolutely messy theme/promo wise. The tour didn't start until almost a year after the album came out which was CRAZY for the time.

Then we have FAME, her cancelled collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Azealia Banks etc are all technically between BTW and ARTPOP but we’re still attached to the BTWB cycle. Plus her doing drugs and fighting with celebrities all the time whilst on tour.

Her eras all were massive messes until Bobby became her full time manager tbh.

Also her history of describing each album was;

The Fame - “inspired by the lower east side music scene”, “internal fame”, “her journey to become famous”

The Fame Monster - “Her fears while touring”, “the dark side of fame”, “her life on tour in general”, “euordance gothic send up”

Born This Way - “the stories her fans told her on tour”, “her life growing up”, “the music she grew up listening to”, “LGBTQ+ rights”

At least with Mayhem she’s said it was inspired by her need to not label her music anymore and being creatively free, not forcing her music to “go together”. And stuck with that.

Wait care to jog my memory here? I know she was a big pot smoker during this era but I don’t really remember her being known for any other sorts of drugs at that point in her career (She mentioned doing cocaine in the early LES days but claimed to have mostly stopped). As far as celeb feuds — Katy Perry and Madonna, anyone else? She quietly said Azealia Banks had a bad attitude when asked about the collab falling through. Am I missing anything g regarding drugs and celeb feuds?

I mean I agree but the messiness kind of made the eras interesting. There was always something to look at/read about/see on social media/magazines throughout these eras. Chromatica (mostly) and mayhem both had periods which just felt super awkwardly quiet and long, like she released disease in October and then didn’t announce the album until the end of January. And all the major events of the era were all concentrated all in a few short months and then it kind of just went quiet while she was on tour.
