there seems to be a consensus that the late 2000s and early 2010s was a low time for music were creativity, art, imagination and risk taking lacked across the mainstream global top 100.

lately i've some content popping up here and there about this topic but then i came across this article that goes DEEP into the genericness of the time

they also analyzed how every song had the exact same structure and a DROP.

The late 2000s and early 2010s are usually seen as a low ebb for pop music.

ALSO i think Lana is the responsible for changing the music landscape at the time and making the shift to a more organic sound.

I think like even nowadays Music is still not ad structurally ambitious as in lets say the 90s, however - the Dance Pop Music was just very fun. Sometimes a good Song to sing along to, feel the rhythm to and just enjoy is all it takes. Not everything has to be the next most introspective, deep Song. We also had those Songs during that time too tho like Speechless, Rolling in the Deep, Russian Roulette, Grenade, The One That Got Away etc.

Every decade has its gems and duds.

So many songs atm though come across far too sanitised, "authentic" and faux deep if you know what I mean.

If I had to choose I'd take the cheesy, over the top, bombastic era of 2010s early pop tbh because it contained more umm... flavour and character

It was a good time and a bad time because it gave us Lady Gaga and Katy Perry's Teenage Dream era but it also gave us fun and silly things like The Party Rock Anthem and Gangnam style. Then a few years later there came a time where Drake was the number 1 star and music became less poppy and fun and we were all complaining that music is boring because we missed the pop bops. Does anyone else remember that dark and depressing time in the mid 2010's? :mark:

For me it felt like when Billie showed up with her musical style that pop started getting more interesting again... and then we got Chromatica. Imagine how boring life would have been these last couple of years if we didn't have that.

EDM (electronic dance music) had/has so many incredible pieces of music and I'm lowkey tired of it being used as a punching bag.

I saw that TT.. I I Got A Feeling hated it w all my guts but now I remember sailing camp every-time I hear it :diane:I do appreciate that songs then were more care-free than today’s doom and gloom songs.. (Chromatica has ‘happy’ beats so doesn’t count)

this led me listening to kpop instead

It was careless, fun and entertaining. Today's repetitive trap beats are this generation's generic sound (and the next generation will look back at that the same way it's happening with this) and this intense search for deep meanings and important messages are borderlining on SJW exhaustion.

I'll take "basic" over repetitive anytime
