They're uncompareable in my opinion.
There are around 10 years in between both songs, and we all know how much the industry changed in that time.

Bad Romance might be that one song in Gaga's career that she'll never top.
I know Pokerface has bigger sales and Shallow hit #1, while BR could only reach #2, but the sheer iconicness and impact BR had/ has makes it superior.

I'd probably rank them like this
1. Bad Romance
2. Shallow
3. Born This Way
4. Pokerface

trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken but you can still see the crack in that ************s reflection.

hard to pick, but after all i voted Bad Romance - this is her signature song, while Shallow is at the end of the day just a movie song

I'm gonna give it Bad Romance by a hair. Every single human alive knew and (most) loved that song. The video was epic and one of the best of all time. It was released at the peak of her imperial phase. It was critically well received.

For a female pop song? I can only think of Madonna's Vogue, Whitney's I Will Always Love You, Adele's Hello and Mariah's We Belong Together as songs that were critically and commercially successful while also defining the zeitgeist.

Shallow is fing amazing. So is Poker Face. But Bad Romance was just sweepingly epic.

I voted for Shallow. It's the song that lured me into Gaga's web, and I think it had a much bigger, wider impact than Bad Romance. That's all wrapped up with the movie though. Purely as a song to play in the car, I much prefer Bad Romance.

There’s a big chance that Shallow will still be played years from now more than BR, but BR is a zeitgeist-defining song. It was much bigger during its peak even if Shallow is more universal and as the video was as big if not bigger than the song. So I’d give it to BR by a hair.

But Shallow reached more views in a much shorter time, they’re both big but I feel like Shallow has accomplished much more in its first 3 years than bad romance did

Honestly this sounds like something a KatyCat would say, living in the YouTube bubble... :bear:

YouTube era was only beginning during 2010 and was it's highest after 2013. Bad Romance has 5x more pure sales to begin with.

Roar/Dark Horse aren't bigger than Bad Romance, Poker Face or Shallow despite them having 3B views on YouTube... :awkney:

Then I’ll bring forward a different argument, Shallow is very close to Bad Romance in terms of total units sold, despite being 9 years younger. :lolly:
