Really hope that they now focus on helping poorer countries, who didnt have the money to buy as many vaccines. We need to continue fighting together against this virus, or else a new mutation will have us in lockdown again.

I'm pretty sure Biden already announced that he'll be sending vaccines to other countries come July.

I think the US should help the rest of the world: but- people always want to talk **** about the US- but ALWAYS expect them to be the first to help Everyone out.

This is definitely an effort to get people to vaccinate themselves. See this tweet:

I don’t get how this really does anything. If you are vaccinated, businesses can still refuse service if you aren’t masked up. And masks are still required on planes and transportation whether or not you are vaccinated.

It’s not like the police will be stopping everyone walking around without a mask to verify if they are vaccinated or not.

and that’s why the EU needs to delete their waiver support and provide the tech and know-how to other countries ASAP

EU will do just that if the US starts exporting vaccines. It's weird framing that the EU is holding back the world even when 200 million doses have been exported. Meanwhile the pandemic is still on-going here, a neighbour who lives 3 doors further from me died in his bed from covid earlier this week :(

No its not weird framing, it’s true framing. Germany already came out against supporting the TRIPS waiver after the US said so. Most EU countries are against it. Europe is holding everyone up while they only make vaccines for themselves and not for the rest of the world. It’s not enough and definitely not as fast as it could be. There are factories sitting there waiting to be given the green light to make these vaccines.

Did you even look at the graph I posted? The EU has exported 200x more vaccines than the US. The US has tens of millions of vaccines in storage awaiting approval. The US are insane hypocrites for now putting the blame on Europe when they prefer vaccinating 15-year old Americans over 70-year olds in the rest of the world. Statistically, then, the US thinks 1 American life is worth about 10000 African, Asian, European or Latin American lives. Why does that not surprise me?

You’re missing the whole point.

Stop this US vs EU and human morality math mess

We need more vaccines.

EU’s commitment to keeping the patents on the vaccines is limiting supply due to greed.

There are patents on these drugs. The American President is trying to, or has already been able to release them. Every country is looking out for themselves first. Unfortunately the wealthy countries with their abilities to produce these lifesaving drugs will prioritize their own people. The UN should get involved with a plan for a roll out- but blaming America for this is rediculous. The quicker America got under control, the quicker relief to the rest of the world would come. No one here wants to hold China accountable for a Virus started there first. You don’t think China has the ability to produce the same type of drug to countries around the world as well, for a virus that started in their country? Wake up.

The reality is that the EU has exported over 200 million vaccines. The US has exported 1 million at best, and has 60 million vaccines waiting in storage which could be exported NOW. I'm not against waiving the patent, but tearing down the US's export ban is much more important. It's good that the EU is using the latter as a negotiation tactic to get both the patent waived and to put an end to deadly American nationalism.
