Reading the article again this seems to be that this is for HIV-1 which is great as it is the prominent HIV strain. however HIV-2 is the strain found in Africa so hoping they find a workaround for HIV-2 aswell as obviously they don't have the access to meds that we do. Papergangstuh 2,664
The mRNA breakthroughs with the COVID vaccines are not getting enough credit/hype for what they will be able to do for current diseases, but also future ones that aren't even a thing yet. While things are turning more positive, I hate that the fear-mongering/clickbait narrative of "Nope we are never going back to normal! Vaccines won't stop this!" and stuff like that seems to still exist on social media by random twinks with blue checkmarks who feel like experts because they follow a random doctor or NYT journalist. It's usually not based in reality/science, and I feel doesn't give the props to how great this all is. Science is amazing.
high culture 2,362
Very excited for this! I don’t feel like I have enough casual sex to take prep since it has long term negative side effects for the kidney or liver (idr which), this will help a lot of people. If you are still worried about possible exposure but don't want to commit to taking PrEP all the time, you can do the on demand PrEP if you know you're going to have sex. Take 2 tablets of PrEP (double dose) between 2 and 24 hours before sex. The before-sex double dose is very important to make sure that there is enough drug in the body when you have sex. Take a single pill 24 hours after the double dose. Take another single pill the following day, 24 hours later.

Actually, it was these very same scientists and researchers working on an HIV vaccine that pioneered mRNA vaccine methods!! The COVID vaccines came on the market so quickly bc the HIV scientists at Scripps and other places donated their work/research to developing an mRNA COVID shot We truly own our lives to these INCREDIBLE people ugh SO much love <

But also you can get vaccinated for HPV & Hep A and B, so please people go get these after your covid vaccine so you'll be protected against them. I'm gonna get my last shot of the HPV vaccine in June (received my second one in February), it got approved for men & boys a few years ago and the costs are now covered by my health insurance. There's a SHOCKING amount of miseducation about HPV (like the common belief that only AFAB people need it), but HPV has been known for decades to cause penile and colon cancer, especially for men who have sex with other men. I only learned about it late last year, because one of my best friends had cancer (he's in remission now) and was informed about HPV being a risk factor of his cancer coming back. So in the meantime get yourself on PrEP if you have access to it! It's amazing, I hope people wont get too excited, because even if the vaccine is there, people should still be careful, the vaccine may be an exclusive thing for infected people only at first, and also other stds are still on the prowl: like super gonnohrea, etc
