FfFfFfFF 58,062
Armenia, Azerbaijan and Russia signed an agreement on Tuesday to end six weeks of fierce fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh in a deal Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan described as “unspeakably painful” in an emotional Facebook post. The post was the first indication of a deal, with Pashinyan saying the agreement would take effect from 1am on Tuesday (21:00 GMT on Monday) to end a conflict that has left at least 1,000 people dead. The deal was later confirmed by Azerbaijan and the Kremlin. The agreement calls for Armenian forces to turn over control of some areas it held outside the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the eastern district of Agdam. That area carries strong symbolic weight for Azerbaijan because its main city, also called Agdam, was thoroughly pillaged, and the only building remaining intact is the city’s mosque. Armenians will also turn over the Lachin region, which holds the main road leading from Nagorno-Karabakh to Armenia. The agreement calls for the road, the so-called Lachin corridor, to remain open and be protected by 1,960 Russian peacekeepers. The agreement also calls for transport links to be established through Armenia linking Azerbaijan and its western exclave of Nakhcivan, which is surrounded by Armenia, Iran and Turkey. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2020/11/9/armenia-pm-says-signed-painful-deal-to-end-nagorno-karabakh-war, https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/nov/10/nagorno-karabakh-armenia-pm-signs-deal-to-end-war-with-azerbaijan-and-russia

Sneaky Oliver 22,972
Wow Azerbaijan is a moderate-big country. I thought it was one of the very little countries you can barely find in the map. So Gagaface was right all along, Gaga should have smashed there! monster4life231 4,304
I was only made aware of this conflict after studying it at university a few weeks ago. Hopefully this will create some stability in the region, even though it also seems like a power-grab from Russia. spread peace - #MJInnocent

palma 8,909
I don't think this will last in perpetuity It really is a shame how this situation escalated into a full-blown war but no one can say they didn't see it coming... Pashinyan was rather pro-Western and we see how that turned out for Armenia... (Hint: Putin put his foot in ) I don't see Armenia straying away from Russia in any time soon -which is the perfect breeding ground for more and more corruption in an already difficult country. Many people died for due to a mistake made by the Soviet elite (Stalin) decades ago, Armenia is in turmoil and seems like Azerbaijani opposition to Aliyev's dictatorship (which was barely there) will cease to exist. While peace is always good, I don't think this comforts even the victors as to my understanding, not the entirety of Nagarno-Karabakh/Artsakh will be turned over to Azerbaijan. Its a shame no one in the democratic world really cared about it except for the Armenian diaspora (which did not ask for peace to say the least). More hatred will grow out of this. No one won but Putin Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?

In the Caucasus you kind of depend on Russian arbitration though... Armenia really has no one to turn to but Russia but Aliyev also needs Putin's support to stay in power. He may do deals with the West, be friendly with Turkey and Israel but no Russia no dictatorship. Is there some reason my LG7 isn't here? Has she died or something?
