It's controversial whether his opponent commited acts of corruption or not, but the point is that the nation as a whole was tired of the Workers' Party (with good reason, since they were partly responsible for one of the worst economic crises in our history), the main left-wing party in Brazil, and Bolsonaro capitalized on that. What annoys me the most though is that, besides being a prejudist asshole, he's utterly incompetent, has no plan for the economy whatsoever and we're dealing with the pandemic without a proper health minister, since the previous ones were fired for disagreeing with Bolsonaro's negationist views.
