She's just showing her arms and the bottom of the dress goes under her knees...

Like I said countless times on Gagadaily, people will complain about everything that isn't important nowadays, and ignore the important stuff

LOVE FOOLISH

Actually, my understanding is that the criticism came from ACTUAL healthcare workers and KNetz are just fuming the problem because Jennie is involved. I apologize for the length wall of text, but this must be addressed:

First, a statement from the Korean Health and Medical Worker’s Union’s stated that the “outfit and portrayal directly imitate the typical sexual stereotype and excuse it as a simple ‘costume.’” They also note that “nurses are the healthcare workers who are the most frequently exposed to sexual abuse. If the media continues to show a distorted image of nurses, situations like these will only get worse.” Though COVID has increased respect for healthcare workers, this type of behavior is still very common in the workplace. Arguably, some nurses have experienced even worse treatment despite their dedication and hard work during this pandemic. So, this is why they “oppose sexual objectification of women and nurses,” and believe YGE should take action since BP are insanely popular and influential upon their new release.

Also, some people bought up good points about the Nth room, chat rooms where sexually dehumanizing videos of women were illegally shared and produced, had a room specifically for nurse fetishes. This is a HUGE sex crime and the justice system has consistently failed to uphold justice for women. I understand the criticism that people are bringing up here, but this is a KOREAN issue that is deeply rooted to the sexual dehumanization of Korean women. Also, the Nth room investigation is still on-going, and the ring leader was arrested back in March.

Either way, this is not the first time YGE had to edit BP’s music video after release. A recent edit was done in HYLT because of the inappropriate placement of a Ganesh statue, which is a significant figure in Indian culture and religion. It is a shame that the girls get the hate the most when this should be directed at the teams involved with MV sets.

I don't personally agree with the view that this scene is sexualizing anything, but I did think it was insensitive toward those with mental health issues and also a little sexist. This is a stereotypical "crazy woman" trope and depicts her in what I interpret as a fashionable strait jacket in a mental institution simply because she is emotional / "lovesick." The tone of the scene is also dark, reinforcing the stereotype that getting treatment is scary or negative.

Yeah I was pretty surprised when I saw this scene. It's just so tacky, the cliche "I'm a psycho🤪🤪" sort of thing I'd expect from like 10 or 20 years ago. I thought we'd outgrown these sort of things.

So I'm glad they're replacing this scene, its tackiness ruined the whole video for me:messga:

First and foremost, I totally get and respect your point of view

However, I personally interpreted it the other way round

Like, she needed help because her relationship made her have anxiety, depression or whatever else it is and it helped her get out of it and now she’s dancing with her friends to celebrate their single-ness as in “it’s not the end of the world, we made it and so can you”

So I saw it more as an empowering thing. Something that is “de-dramatizing” seeking for help (whether it be friends or therapy).

That's a really interesting take! I definitely see what you're saying when I look at it with that lens, and I appreciate hearing another interpretation, especially one so opposite to what I thought!

Of course no one should have to face inappropriate sexual advances at work but why is it that nurses are the only profession that ever gets complained about in media depictions? I think secretaries are used in the same way almost as much, if not more, in music videos and basically every profession has been sexualised before, yet I don't hear them complaining. I highly doubt a couple of seconds in a music video is going to make a would-be sexual harasser think it's ok to go out and do this to people in the profession depicted. A criminal will always find a way to do their crimes and they don't care about the law, so if that won't stop them, it doesn't matter how good or wholesome an image you conduct of professions, it won't change their desire to be inappropriate.

maybe its just the timing not right, when nurses fight over pandemic and the creative team thinks that putting sexy nurse on was right.overly sensitive? yes. but well, people nowadays just wanna see the world burn over simple things

The sad thing is that Knet actually being more generous these days. If this had happened  10 years ago, the backlash would have been worse. :bear:

But Girls Generation did it in 2014 and G Dragon in 2013 and they didn't have scenes deleted

thank u, next
