Didn't she say that her new album would be inspired by songs like Wicked Game by Chris Isaac? Like that's got country feel and it'd suit her

I read a short review about that novel, it sounds really interesting but also scary since it's based on real incidents :ohno:

Oh yeah, it's super harrowing but beautifully-written and has a mid-western edge to it. A little fun fact, when he traveled there for research (to interview people and such), he went with his long-time childhood friend Harper Lee, writer of To Kill a Mockingbird. Talent travels in circles, I guess haha

When I think of the Midwest region, I don’t predominantly think of country music myself, that region of the US is super rich in sound, and it’s one of the most important contributors in music. The term rock and roll originated in Cleveland, which derived directly from the rhythm and blues music of the 40’s, which itself developed from earlier blues, boogie woogie, jazz and swing music, and was also influenced by gospel, country and western, and traditional folk music.

Music from Europe had a marked influence in that region too, and by the 60’s, rebellion, sex, drugs, and rock and roll became the predominant themes of the region, free spirited teenagers had no desire to follow in their father’s footsteps and work at factories and similar jobs, being a rockstar was far more appealing to them, by the early 70’s the Midwest music scene was at its highest point regarding creativity, and remained so for more than a decade.

For all we know Chemtrails Over The Country Club could be a wildly progressive and psychedelic rock record with heavily americanised lyricism, as it’s Del Rey’s signature style, or reversed.

Edit:

I mean, Detroit, Chicago, Kansas City, the possibilities are vast. And I’m inclined to think that she’s going to deliver as she’s super consistent, I’m very excited.

Even if it’s described as country, she’s going to put her own twist on it, just like she did with Born To Die and its hip-hop influences.
