The way this only confused me more. :bear:

What I’ve seen on this forum, many users have shown both prejudice and racist behavior.

In most cases, users here are prejudice more than racist. They are ignorant to the subject of racism and how it bothers others i.e. me/white allies on the forum.

The racists users (mostly banned) are the ones who displayed the blatant actions and vile words during the protest and BLM movement threads.

Users confuse the two because racism is the parent word to prejudice, discrimination, and many other terms.

Wait, I found this and I think I understand now:

Prejudice is when a person negatively pre-judges another person or group without getting to know the beliefs, thoughts, and feelings behind their words and actions. A person of any racial group can be prejudiced towards a person of any other racial group. There is no power dynamic involved.

Bigotry is stronger than prejudice, a more severe mindset and often accompanied by discriminatory behavior. It’s arrogant and mean-spirited, but requires neither systems nor power to engage in.

Racism is the system that allows the racial group that’s already in power to retain power. Since arriving on U.S. soil white people have used their power to create preferential access to survival rights and resources (housing, education, jobs, voting, citizenship, food, health, legal protection, etc.) for white people while simultaneously impeding people of color’s access to these same rights and resources.Though “reverse racism” is a term I sometimes hear, it has never existed in America. White people are the only racial group to have ever established and retained power in the United States.

This makes sense to me, please tell me this is correct so I can no longer be confusion about the terms lol

You’re on the right track here.

The point @Twitter is making, but seems to be lost on you, is that comparing instances of prejudice, oppression, or violence against white people is not comparable to the historic and still very much active systemic racismin the United States, that claims black lives every single day. If you really think you have a strong argument, you clearly need to do some research. If you don't care to do that research, maybe ask yourself why you choose to remain ignorant.

*If you don't know what this term means, please take 5 minutes to look it up.

If you know the difference between SYSTEMIC racism & racial prejudice (also racism) then there shouldn’t even be a debate happening. Anyone can experience racial prejudice, that is also defined as racism. All y’all saying white people can’t experience racism are implying the only type of racism that exists is SYSTEMIC which just isn’t true. The white guilt in this thread is hilarious, y’all really think by invalidating white peoples feelings that you’ll somehow get a gold star from POC? :ladyhaha: I have to laugh

I don’t know who the “all y’all” part is referring to but I’m not saying whites don’t experience racism all together.

However, they will never experience what Blacks and any other minority has experienced when it comes to racism, racial injustice, etc.

A point that I’ve seen made about reverse racism not being a thing is that if it was actually racism, it would just be called racism. It wouldn’t need a different name

Don't worry about my understanding of the terms - maybe focus on the ignorance in this thread instead. You really think you made a point, huh? It's about challenging and calling out this type of sh*t, but look at you invalidating that and trying to warp my intentions like it's about getting a "gold star." Gross.

So based on Twitters response, racism and systematic racism are technically two different things. Systematic obviously refers to positions of power, like what we are seeing all over the media in America.

But racism is sort of an umbrella term? I think the issue here is that everyone seems to have their own understanding and idea if what all these terms mean.

Googling the definition of racism seems to provide the exact definition of what others are referring to on the forum as prejudice.

Confusion!

It’s beyond me, not one racist or ignorant user can walk a day in my shoes as a Black male.

Maybe I should do it since I’m one of the few Black users here.

I know how tired you are of fighting for yourself :( but if you feel like you wanna do it, I fully support u , of course!! And I think it may open up more eyes here if it’s coming from a POC

if you shared your experiences and your perspective of how it’s so wrong of white people to try and say what is and isn’t racist and how the White ppl here love to gaslight

I don't see anything wrong with calling super racist annoying selfish privileged women who live in a bubble and demand things out of people with only thinking about their own well being, not to mention how crazy they are a little bit in the head Karen. If you are triggered by it then maybe there's a part of you that's like that

Sister

I am happy to not be named Karen nor a "Karen", but I have never been much of a complainer or tattle-tail. I follow a woman named Karen on Instagram, she has a good attitude about it and makes fun of herself with it and being named Karen, she is cute and she is also a supporter of BLM and voting out Trump.

The future's uncertain and the end is always near.

I am really so tired of these threads, and yet I am so easily drawn to them. As always its generally an argument of semantics and terminology.

There's the racial prejudice/racism terminology set and the racism/systematic racism set. For both, the first term refers to negative thoughts and feelings about someone based on their skin color, while the second refers to the oppressive systemic pressure placed on people based on the color of their skin. I think part of the divide comes from the fact racism literally means the thought that one race is superior to the others. Which is then reflected in the society. In this case, the first set is probably more accurate. But I also understand the rejection of the first set based on the language, because it almost feels like there should be a word for prejudice based on skin color. I find that more liberal people tend to use the first set while more conservative types tend to use the second set.

For the most part, people arguing that you should use one set over the other, are themselves pretty ignorant. What does it matter that someone calls it racism or prejudice, we all know both are bad things. People who say things like "white people can't experience racism" are just baiting for a reaction at this point.

As a side note, "slur" is defined as an insinuation or allegation intended to damage one's reputation, and is synonymous with "insult", soooo technically Karen would be a slur. It's not the nicest thing to call someone but its definitely not on the same level as racial, sexist, or homophobic slurs.
