That’s the sad part right there, “FL is notoriously bad at funding public mental health programs...” My concern with Florida is that it feels like the government there just gave up on its people and said F it, the problems will go away on their own. Those just mean anyone can request to view public (state, county, municipal) records without requiring a reason. Curious about what the Miami-Dade County school board is spending it's annual money on? Easy, you can request those records under the state law. Crimes, such as homicide, public intoxication, etc., can be publicly reported on in any state. If someone rolled up to a McDonalds in Maryland and shot someone over a McRib, you can be guaranteed local media would cover the story. As you've mentioned, Florida does not provide many resources for public mental health, has relaxed gun laws, among other legislative failures which can pile-on into increasingly odd societal behavior. If this happens in Canada, no matter the province, it will be talked about for years. The same way we had a mass shooting in 89' and it's still being talked about, whereas in the US you have one every. ****ing. day.
