Any official data u can find online is probably good. “Deaths always lag considerably behind cases,” Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s top infectious-disease specialist, told Congress at a hearing Tuesday. In the weeks to come, he and others said, the death toll is likely to rise commensurately. Webb7 438
In terms of second peaks apart from the USA, you’re to bound to get localised outbreaks after lockdown lifts but if they’re contained and traced it’s fine. I know some Asian countries and European countries and Canada ( Toronto passes a law masks mandatory) have been good at that. I think the term ‘second peak’ has been used loosely when a country just gets a few extra cases

They lag, but not by more than 2 weeks. When cases are at the highest ever and yet the deaths are going down, it should tell us something. It should tell us that maybe we should look at how many people are in ICU or something similar, but probably it is harder to find that information. The top infectious disease specialist said just 2 days ago that deaths from this latest spike lag considerably. Don’t know why you’re still on this misinformation train. I think it's too soon to say deaths are lower... Texas reported a record high amount of hospitalizations. Young people are getting it and beating it, but they still present a HUGE danger to older people. A 25 year old in my neighborhood had long lasting lung damage from Coronavirus. Her lungs are so destroyed, she was able to apply for disability. Not everyone recovers fully

lavenderblondee 3,695
My state went from roughly 200 a day (for a long while we were at 2k a day and one of the highest cases in the country) to almost 600 new cases. We did incredible at flattening the curve and then....we opened back up. I get an increase is expected with the state opening back up, but I'm hoping the numbers do not stay this high. We already had to go backwards and shut down inside bars (strictly bars, places that do not sell food) and I'm hoping that's it. We have to be smarter than this, and it's a shame we aren't. Fresco 1,688
We do have remdesivir now as a treatment. Also, there are other studies being conducted that may possibly be working, but the results are not published yet ( a hopeful thought). Convalescent plasma may be working. More testing means that more people are getting tests before hospitalization now. The virus may have mutated.

I know that Sweden strategy is controversial and dont want to get into that discussion. I would only mention that their numbers are lower than of some countries who had lockdowns. Returning to the subject on this topic, why the number of cases goes up and yet the deaths are going down? The one silver lining here could be that the virus is mutating into a less deadly version. Same thing happened 100 years ago with the spanish flu, which turned into...the average flu. Honestly I think corona never goes away or is cured, and it becomes the new "seasonal flu". Returning to the subject on this topic, why the number of cases goes up and yet the deaths are going down? If I had to guess it's a combination of things Healthcare capacity with things like ventilators has improved increasing chances of survival for severe cases Secondly we know old people have a much higher chance of dying and innitially everyone was caught off gaurd. Here in Ontario we had a huge surge in deaths from nursing home outbreaks alone... But now the elderly and sick and most vulnerable know to stay isolated and most elderly actually are careful at least compared to young people so I would think a higher portion of infections are among younger people now especially as the economy re-opens So in terms of the total numbers I think that's the reason In proportion they fall even lower because with more testing capacity ull obviously catch more people and thus more mild cases as well

I think that’s what health experts said would most likely happen when the outbreak first occurred. My sister is a nurse and she said in NJ that’s what the health officials were reporting throughout hospitals, that the virus mutated into something less deadly.
