Nemo 4,218
24 pages? WTF? Gaga has the right to self-defense. She never starts ****, and she lets a lot of things slide. And even her nastiest isn't very nasty. Die Antwoord... well, they're fun to look at. But their music sucks.
kupo 201
How was her insult misguided? She's right. She's bigger than them. I dont think its even that mean of an insult, really. Because it insinuates that commercial success is the way in which an artist achieves validity and credibility. And that's obviously not true, and I don't think Gaga honestly believes that. And it's misguided, too, because while Die Antwoord probably wouldn't say "no" to commercial success (they're obviously not *** Riot or anything--they've proven perfectly willing to be a part of the capitalist system), they have demonstrated that huge commercial success is *not* worth compromising their artistic vision for (pretty clear with them leaving Interscope). So how is her insult actually supposed to affect them, when she's insulting something they don't care that much about? There are lots of things she could take them to task for and legitimately critique them without making fun of them (their own hypocrisy would be easy to highlight), but she doesn't. She just says "I've sold more tickets than you." Not sure what she's attempting to prove besides the obvious. Edited October 18, 2012 by kupo

Doot 2
Exactly. She belittled them. She bullied back. She got even. She didn't "stand up to" the bullies in the way she preached us to do back during BTW. I always knew that was a gimmick. LOL. Are you serious! She's a pop star, not a nun. giskardsb 12,565
Gaga is human, not some über Goddess who will never contradict herself or have a moment of human weakness. Some of you are acting like you just found out that your God is a lie. Well, she is, except she never made herself out to be God anyway and never promised she'd be perfect. Allow her a little human weakness once in a while. And thats assuming that she and DA arn't just having some fun with each other and trolling everybody. StrawberryBlond 14,289
OMG, I love it! I was just thinking about how Gaga's selling out two stadium gigs in South Africa - something Die Antwoord has never done. To think she'll be performing there (including Cape Town, where they live) and they declined her invitation is just too delicious. Obviously they turned down the offer before they realised she was ever going to be touring there. And talk about a lame tweet back from them. One thing I've noticed in their video is that their fans have been defending them by saying that they felt Gaga was rude by asking them to open for her and treating them like charity cases who needed her to be successful when they've already been selling out headlining concerts. Yeah, at small clubs! They've never sold out so much as an arena! And having one single charting at #37 in the UK certainly isn't grounds for a band to claim that they don't need more exposure through being an opening act. Gaga has had opening acts who've been in the business even longer than her. Most notably, The Darkness are making their comeback as her opening act and they're much older than her and had two albums out before she even debuted. They accepted her offer of opening because they realised what great exposure it would be for the band, even though their music is very different. Die Antwoord haven't been around as long as Gaga and they've only made the smallest of impacts in the indie scene, so where is this sense of entitlement coming from? This is a big reason why I find lots of indie music so off-putiting - most of its artists are in need of serious attitude adjustments.

Being signed to a label and trying to tell the world how cool you are, means you want attention and fans. Die Antwoord and Gaga are similar in that aspect. But Gaga is mrs upfront and classy about it. It's dumb to think she doesn't care about her sales, numbers or charts. DirtyIceCream 9
Lmao this band is ****ing stupid. They are talking **** on half the people in the music business saying they all sound the same and make bad music..and yet there song sounds like a track from a Chipmunks album. If I had heard that song without even knowing about any GaGa feud thats exactly what I would have thought. And its sad how much hate you can see they have inside them by watching this video. Like its not even amusing, they have people with guns trying to shoot GaGa when all she has been about is making people happy! It seriously digusts me. They're saying music back in the day used to be good and all these artist suck...yet there song sounds like this...seriously wtf. You don't even have any vocal talent or play instruments..yet you talk **** on other artists.. I don' think music should spread hate..Yeah music can be dark and angry, but this is just hate speech. She probably wasn't trying to be vicious and prove something to them, she was more than likely pissed and made that silly comment without thinking much about it. Yet there are people that say she "bullied" them back. Yes, she could have been more mature about it, but how can anyone compare what she said to being ridiculed and killed in a music video? But Gaga is mrs upfront and classy about it. It's dumb to think she doesn't care about her sales, numbers or charts. You're arguing against things I never said. I agree: I do think Gaga wants attention and fans. Especially since one of the things she clearly is infatuated with and wants to comment on, and the subject of a lot of her art, is fame. And again, I doubt Die Antwoord themselves would say "no" to becoming as big as Gaga, they just demonstrated there are certain things they wouldn't do to achieve that (as I'm sure there are plenty of things Gaga wouldn't budge on as well). I never said anything to the contrary, and never said that Gaga and Die Antwoord weren't interested in any level of commercial success. What I said was I don't think art is validated through commercial success. And even with Gaga's own commercial success being vital to her, given her beginnings, and given her clear knowledge of art in general, I highly doubt she would disagree. Lots of **** art becomes massively popular, and lots of great art struggles. We all know that, and Gaga knows that.

But it still has those implications, and I find that a little disappointing. That's all. I'm no less of a fan. I don't think she's any less of a person. Just a silly incident that could have been handled better.
