It is important to note that testing per capita in Australia is amongst the highest in the world, with approximately 14,000 tests/M population - higher than South Korea, about double that of the USA, triple that of the UK and almost on par with Germany. Australia is also trying to cushion the economic impact of the lockdown with the government providing $3000 every month for the unemployed through to September 27 2020, $10,000 grants to small businesses and opportunities for tax deferrals, providing free child care and of course health care is provided for all in Australia already. Social Distancing - "Hunt said data showed between Thursday and Sunday, Australians were only moving around at a rate of 13 percent of normal -- a sign people were staying home and not travelling." Australians have successfully followed instructions and stayed home, with the coronavirus "curve" now officially flattening, health minister Greg Hunt said. "We are now seeing consolidation of the flattening of the curve," Hunt said Monday. "The latest data shows that we have had consistent growth in new cases of below two percent a day." The reason it isn't spreading here like it is in Europe and USA is because of how big the country is and how far spread out people are, not only that but the hot climate makes it harder for the virus to survive. Bondi became a virus hot spot right after that so they soon closed the beach and even setup a specific test centre there because it almost got out of control. Yes, I agree with you but in addition to widespread testing lockdown measures in Australia have been quite extreme. All international travel shut down, domestic travel shut down, no travelling between states. Even before international shutdown occurred, all inbound passengers (Australian or not) were taken by the military for on-guard quarantine in hotels the government organised.
