When does a new era start?

Just in general. Do you think it starts right when a new single is dropped? Or when it is announced? Or when any content about a new album is released/leaks at all, like a promotional photoshoot for an album? curious on your thoughts :oprah:

I've always considered the ARTPOP era to begin in July 2013 instead of august cause that was when the single was announced and the video was shot. I also think the Joanne era started in August instead of September of 2016 cause that was when the single was announced.

When it comes to Gaga, when the material is out for sure. There is no concrete pre-era with her because she changes plans at the last minute. When something concrete comes out, that's the official start of the era.

Inside, we are really made the same. 🕊

REALITY

I think it started on Friday, when she officially released SL.

I personally don't understand the logic of "it's when the album is announced/released". Like, is SL then it's own era separate from Chromatica? SL has its own mini-era, but it's still encompassed in the Chromatica era.

When the lead single releases.

Gaga probably makes it confusing since she transforms into a completely different person and hypes a new single until the release date.

My opinion used to be when the single is released. But now I think it starts when it is announced.

She started the Stupid Love look when she dyed her hair pink and when was that? like 3 months ago? lol

Five months ago. She dyed her hair in October.

With the release of the first single. It showcases where the new album's gonna go aesthetic-wise and sets the tone/theme of the era :lana:

It really depends on how long the pre-era goes on for, or if it even can be defined. Some artists don’t even have a pre-era, they just go from one era straight to the next. So there’s no black or white answer. Lots of factors. Some do promo single after promo single until one becomes successful, then they declare that one the official first single, heralding the start of the new era.
