Putin is laying the groundwork as he prepares for a transition in 2024 that analysts say will likely see him abandon the presidency but retain power through a beefed-up role as Russia’s prime minister or in the government’s State Council instead.

So that still sounds like he's trying to take the power with him... What am I still missing?

Ur replies still haven't changed my original thought

I'm trying to understand what exactly ur saying. I'm not an expert on Russian politics so if I'm misinterpreting something explain in detail

Seems like, he plans to become a Head of Federation Council, which is upper house of the Parliament.

Ok. That's more or less what I was thinking

That if he leaves his position he doesn't want someone else to take the power he wants to keep as much as possible

Yeah, definitely. I just read a list of constitutional changes Putin talked about, and it looks like he's about to give more power exactly for upper house of Parliament.

I am assuming he is trying to pull what Xi Jinping does, that is abolish elections, and become a leader for as long as he lives, with his own way.

Previously, Constitution of China established, that one person cannot be Head of China for more than two consecutive terms. Now there's no such rule, that is way Xi Jinping is still a Head of Chine.

As for Russia, it's Constitution establishes, that one person can't be a President for more than two consecutive terms. Now, Putin says that one person will not be able to be a President for more than two terms (not consecutive).

So it seems like Putin will be a leader as long as he lives, but not as President of RF.

Chuckles

I would like the perspective from the citizens of Russia on this matter. Aren't they just tired of the same person in power for the last 20 years? Has the country improved under Putin?

he wants to have the power after 2024 when he isn't allowed to be president anymore.  He is a scary man

Putin Is a "King"  … basically

He could appoint himself as a deity.

The point I think is that its too big for one man to run the country of Russia so he just changes the gov. around and the rules so he can stay in power while everyone else does the dirty work....

In the uk you have head of state (Queen) and head of goverment (prime minister)

In some countries you have head of state (President) and  and head of goverment (Prime minister)

In some countries the president has power (France,Russia) in other countries the prime minister (Germany,Finland,Austria...)

Other countries both the head of state and head of goverment is the president (USA,Brazil....)

Putin wants to shift the power from president to prime minister after 2024 when he isn't allowed to be president anymore and expects to become prime minister

So basically he wants to continue with his power

changing the power he has of right to the future position as a Prime Misnisyer of Russia

So he will always be in Power :saladga:
