Here in The Netherlands it's illegal to be a paid surrogate, so people turn to friends and family. A nice way for a gay male couple to conceive is for one of the guys to have a child carried by his sister in law. I really do agree with you that family is more than blood. I'm a surrogate father and deal with these ideas all the time when I tell people about it. Having said that I do believe queer people should have equal rights to conceive if they want to. The fact that there are lots of children for adoption applies to straight people too.
