Trump says he has worked out a deal to get 300,000 tones shipped this month and 500,000 tones in November of diesel from Russia

 

The alledged deal is interesting considering Russia has largely temporarily restricted exports due to damaged refineries.

If the 1mil barrels he bullied europe into releasing haven't moved the dial.

300k from Russia won't move the dial. 

If anything, its adding to the concerns some in the markets have started to raise that the US oil reserves aren't as healthy as publicly claimed. And that kind of speculation keeps prices up. 

Beyond that though, curious to see if this actually hits *before* the midterms. The price you pay at the pump is based on the price the oil cost at the time of purchase by the gas station owner. So the current pump price is the oil price from a few weeks ago. 

So unless this russian oil is ready today and on US soil today. Its cutting it very very fine for it being able to impact prices before Nov 4th.

If it arrives at all. The European release has been confirmed to not be a new commitment...

Its a tonne commitment not barrells. 

And the 300,000 tonnes equates to roughly 2.25mil barrels according to BBC news' expert.

The US daily consumption is 3.8 million barrels.

So this won't impact prices in the slightest. Its smoke and mirrors. 

The 500,000 pledged in November again comes to around a single day's worth. 

So Russia gets sanctions eased till April. And the US is getting effectively nothing in return.
