One could argue that Trump is tight is Russia with money. Dropping sanctions is another example. He could also be helping his old pal Manfort with Ukraine which in turn probably helps Russia. The money/aid that Trump was holding back from Ukraine was extremely important to Ukraine's hand in the discussions. Ukraine with that aid would have had a better position to tell Russia to gtfo of their territories. Because Trump withheld it, using bribery, Ukraine has been weakened. They're now more likely to sign a pro-Russian deal because the US isn't seen as a strong ally anymore, someone Russia is actually afraid of.
