ARTPOP ACT II: Stache (Dolby Atmos 7.1.2)

Hi Monsters!

Mixing music in Dolby Atmos is my hobby. I’m not a professional, I just love putting on headphones and getting lost in the details.

Stache has a special place in my heart. Its story started back in October 2012, at the very beginning of the ARTPOP era, when Gaga posted a #soundpuzzle on littlemonsters: her vocals and Zedd’s “Stache”, left for us to put together. I’ve loved this song since then, and as part of the ARTPOP / ARTPOP Act II story it felt like the perfect track to start with.

This mix was built completely from scratch, piece by piece, over many hours. Gaga’s vocal stays right in front of you, close and clear, while Zedd’s production opens up all around you: the beat surrounds you, and the brightest synths glide along the walls and circle over your head.

I just wanted to share the result with you, and I’d really love to hear what you think, especially what you liked or what you’d do differently. Comments and follows mean a lot to me and keep me motivated to keep going. I’m planning four more tracks from different eras.

I haven't had the opportunity to listen, have you altered the structure in any way or is it the original song + Dolby atomos editing? I love when fans make extended mixes is why I ask

Hey, thanks for asking!

The structure is the same as the original, no extended parts or new sections. What's new is the mix itself: I rebuilt it from scratch for Dolby Atmos, so her vocal sits right in front of you, the synths and sparkles move around and above you, and the vocal layers float behind you and turn around the room in the busier parts. Kept the levels even so she's never buried under the track.

It really comes alive on headphones with Spatial Audio or on an Atmos setup. Would love to hear what you think once you get a chance to listen! An extended version is a fun idea though, maybe for one of the next ones 👀
