Whew … somewhere between Katy’s birthday and Only Girl’s Loud supremacy … a nostalgic narrative dynamic! The turn of the aughts, like monsters, apparently never die :laughga:

Isn’t Dr Luke the producer of Backstabber though? So won’t he be making money off the views of this too?

Kesha’s biggest hits and most albums except for the last one are attached to Dr. Luke. There’s just no way she’s ever going to earn money that doesn’t go to him like ever.

Well, she could just…make new music? With someone like Max Martin? Or literally ANYONE. Going back to a Luke produced song defeats the purpose of her trying to get out of her former label and never having to work with him again.

I absolutely agree with this sentiment on a pragmatic and moralistic standpoint, she should absolutely find away to release this in a way that does not contribute to Dr. Luke in anyway.

But from an artistic standpoint, she can still be proud of the artwork that is the music video and want it to be released, especially if it was quashed by management and label decisions.

All Imma add is thank god for AdBlock

As sad as it may sound, I believe Kesha is aware that a lot of people see her as a legacy act, so she can tour performing her old songs and make more money from it, same money that will allow her to make new music as her newer albums are obviously not selling enough to break even.

I think this is a good way for artists to revisit their previous work, and I wish Gaga would've done something like that for Bloody Mary when it became so viral.

Probably a controversial opinion but she is NOT a legacy act lol. She’s absolutely a Khia in the same vein of Katy Perry (but even worse in terms of success). A legacy artist implies some cultural legacy, of which she has none. Recession pop and Electropop were already happening (thanks to people like Gaga) when she was introduced, and heavily auto tuned vocals was already invented and popularised by Cher and various Pop-Punk artists in the 2000s. Sure she had great music but she absolutely isn’t a legacy artist.

I’m also forever grateful Gaga hasn’t gone “back” and is always a forward looking person, she’s never retroactively made a music video or put all her promo into one, all they did for Bloody Mary was release some vinyls and CDs. She didn’t do what people like Katy did with TOTGA or anything. Even the anniversary edition of Born This Way and Dawn of Chromatica weren’t promoted by her beyond a tweet.

I hope Gaga stays forward thinking and doesn’t do anything like this. It comes across as nostalgia bait. I prefer her version of nostalgia with Mayhem where she made NEW music inspired by her old music.

I think if she wants to do them she should re-record them or perform different arrangements. Unless Luke has publishing on the songs, because in that case no matter what she does he has to be involved or make money on them. So best to do what Kim Petras has done and make all new music and perform one or two live covers entirely changed.

Imagine Gaga doing this for Scheiße, Dance In The Dark or Vanish Into You in some years. Maybe even Sour Candy. :bradley:

The only unreleased video I want to see is Venus (if it was even shot?)
