Actually things like this are viewed depending on each person's status in X society. Not just nationality or ethnicity.

There are white Latin Americans but brown people are much more common. Why is that technicality an issue?

Honey, appropriation is one thing (that people agree or disagree about), literally coloring your face to look like another ethnicity is another. Almost everyone finds it offensive. I'm from India. It would be considered offensive there as well.

In America yes everyone finds it offensive.

Here is a Arabic singer with full on black face (starts at 2:34), yet Middle Eastern black people like in Sudan loved it and she did it for them.

Yes it is racist if its done by a Canadian or American. My comment was not to say its okay to do blackface or that what he did is not racist. My comment actually says it is racist. But im an Arab and seeing him wear brown face did not offend me, so I just commented to show how things are different in every culture.

I am growing disgusted with people's inability to distinguish between a mistake and ill intention. I cannot believe some people are willing to hold something like this that happened 2 decades ago against someone who has clearly done much better later on.

I have the impression that public persons who try the hardest to appear woke are quite often the ones who do have a few skeletons in their closet.

Not saying they can't change cause obviously there's nothing as dumb as "once a racist always a racist" but sometimes it's like if they knew it would come back to bite them one day so they build  a tolerant image to diminish the impact and not get destroyed by it.

Just this week, on top of this Trudeau story, a TV journalist in my country who always scream the loudest against discrimination was proved to have a super racist past.

Not here to  defend his actions, but this is 18 years ago and in that time-span society changed so rapidly about what is offensive and what's funny/appropiate.

I could easily imagine that his action wasn't mean spirited. 20 Years ago comedians did jokes about minorities such as race or sexual orientation/sexual identity all the time.
